Queensland Government Invests in Major Ecotourism Projects
The Queensland government has announced a significant financial commitment to support ecotourism initiatives in the Gold Coast hinterland. This includes a new camping ground and a zipline development that will be located near protected areas, aiming to boost local tourism and provide unique experiences for visitors.
One of the key projects is a zipline that will stretch one kilometre, making it the largest of its kind in the country. The zipline will be situated near the town of Springbrook, adjacent to Springbrook National Park. The project will feature a 34-site camping ground, amenities, and a permanent cafe, offering visitors a range of options for relaxation and exploration.
Taylor mentioned that his family has matched and exceeded the state’s investment, which is expected to accelerate the project’s completion by five to seven years. The site spans 120 hectares and is located west of Gold Coast beaches, approximately 100 kilometres south of Brisbane.
This venture aims to provide a variety of activities, including guided bushwalking tours, abseiling, and mountain biking, among others. It is designed to cater to both families and adventure enthusiasts seeking a unique experience in a natural setting.
Additional Funding for Surf Park Project
In addition to the zipline development, the government has also allocated $4 million for the Palm Valley surf park project. This initiative, endorsed by retired world champion surfer Mick Fanning, will include a wave pool and a surf academy. It will also be accompanied by a golf course at Parkwood, near the Gold Coast University Hospital.
