Lewis Hamilton’s 22-Year Wait Ends

A New Era for Arsenal Fans

It’s an exciting time for Arsenal fans as the club ends a long wait for the Premier League title. Celebrations are happening around the world, and even a famous F1 driver has joined in on the fun. Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time F1 champion, has been a fan of Arsenal since he was just five years old. His support for the North London side has been a constant throughout his life.

Hamilton, who grew up in Stevenage, north of London, has always had a connection with football. He played at the school level and now shares his love for Arsenal with the world through social media. Recently, he posted a story on Instagram celebrating the team’s victory, using the hashtag ‘COYG– Come On You Gunners’. This isn’t the first time Hamilton has shown his support for the club.

The Story Behind His Loyalty

In 2015, Hamilton spoke to Men in Blazers about how he became an Arsenal fan. He revealed that it was his older sister who introduced him to the team. “My sister bullied me into it,” he said. “She is 10 years older than me, and she was a Gooner. When I was five, she was watching, and I started watching, and it really started from there.”

Hamilton’s first visit to Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium took place in September 2015. He described the experience as “so much fun.” During his visit, he was shown around by former Arsenal midfielder Theo Walcott. “I was so proud because I’ve been watching them for so many years, been supporting for so many years, wearing the jersey. It was just cool to be there and be amongst the crowd who are die-hard fans,” he said.

A Long-Time Fan

Hamilton has supported Arsenal for 36 years, and he is thrilled to see the team finally win their fourth Premier League Trophy. His journey with the club has been filled with memorable moments, including when Arsenal won their first league title in 1997-98. At the time, Hamilton was 13 years old and had just gotten his driving license. He also witnessed the invincible title in 2003-04, which was a defining moment for the club.

The last time Arsenal won the league, Hamilton hadn’t yet driven an F1 car. Since then, he has achieved incredible success in Formula One, winning the title in only his second season in 2008.

A Special Match with Arsenal Legends

Ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix in 2015, where Hamilton finished third, he participated in an interesting exhibition match. The event featured a 5-a-side football game between Sky Sports pundits and Hamilton, along with some Arsenal legends. Hamilton led a team that included Sol Campbell, Ray Parlour, and Robert Pires—players he had watched growing up.

They faced a team featuring Thierry Henry, Carlo Cudicini, Paul Merson, Jamie Redknapp, and Jamie Carragher. The match ended 5-5, with Hamilton scoring a penalty in the shootout. Although his team lost 4-3 on penalties, Hamilton didn’t mind the defeat. He had the chance to play against a player he admired, and it was a special moment for him.
