A Dominant Performance by Carlton
Carlton delivered a commanding performance against Port Adelaide, securing a 34-point victory that preserved caretaker coach Josh Fraser’s unbeaten record. The Blues dominated the match with a final score of 13.14 (92) to 8.10 (58) at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night.
Captain Patrick Cripps was instrumental in the win, showcasing his exceptional skills with 31 disposals, eight clearances, a goal, and nine score involvements. His performance set the tone for the game, especially in the first half where he contributed 19 touches and a goal, helping Carlton build a 35-point lead.

Fraser, the interim coach, expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, highlighting the importance of integrating younger players into the lineup. “It’s fun winning,” he said. “We had seven players under 12 games, so it’s great to be able to bring those guys into the team and have confidence that our leaders and our experienced players are going to play really well to support.”
Key Performers and Team Dynamics
Forwards Mitch McGovern, Will Hawyard, and Brodie Kemp each kicked two goals, contributing to Carlton’s strong offensive display. The team improved their record to three wins and eight losses, matching Port Adelaide’s current standing.
Cripps was supported by his fellow midfielders George Hewett (26 disposals, one goal), Sam Walsh (28, one goal), and Jagga Smith (27 disposals). Additionally, recruits Hayward (19 possessions) and Ollie Florent (26) made significant contributions, putting pressure on Port’s on-ballers.

Port Adelaide’s Zak Butters, who played his 150th AFL game, had 28 disposals but was largely subdued. He was moved to half-back from late in the third quarter. Brownlow Medallist Ollie Wines struggled with just five disposals, all handballs, as Port relied heavily on Jason Horne-Francis, who had an outstanding performance with 32 disposals, three goals, and eight clearances.
Power coach Josh Carr acknowledged the team’s recent struggles, stating, “If you look at the season up until now, the last couple of weeks we have dropped off a bit. It’s probably a bit of lack of confidence within the group … we lacked aggression in our game.”
Game Highlights and Key Moments
Carlton started strongly, kicking 5.0 to 2.0 in the opening term. Despite losing utility Matt Carroll to a knee injury, the Blues’ attack remained effective, with Cripps collecting 13 disposals and four clearances in the quarter.
Horne-Francis was a key player for Port, scoring both of their goals in the first term with 10 touches. Cripps continued to influence the game in the second quarter, scoring the first of four more goals for the visitors as they extended their lead to 35 points.

Carlton’s attacking prowess was evident as they kicked their initial eight goals without a miss. The only behind came from a wayward left-footer from Cripps in the 16th minute of the term. With Jack Ison and Kemp making notable contributions, the Blues held a 34-point lead at halftime—mirroring the final margin.
Port managed to make slight inroads in the third term, scoring two goals to one. Their last goal came from ex-Blue Corey Durdin in a chaotic melee. The hosts trailed by 31 points at three-quarter time and were 25 down when Todd Marshall goaled in the opening seconds of the final quarter.
However, Carlton quickly extinguished any hope of a Port comeback by booting the next three goals, sealing their impressive victory.
