Jackson Ford’s Determination After Origin Omission
Jackson Ford has accepted his omission from the State of Origin series opener, stating that the snub has only fueled his desire to make his debut for New South Wales. The Warriors prop has been in exceptional form this season, currently sitting just behind Penrith superstar Nathan Cleary on the Dally M leaderboard after 11 rounds.
Ford is leading the league among forwards for average run metres and is in the top three for average post-contact metres. His performance has not gone unnoticed, with the NSW hierarchy even suggesting he should pack extra bags in case he needed to fly directly from Magic Round into Blues camp.
However, Ford was left waiting as Jacob Saifiti and Victor Radley were selected instead. NSW coach Laurie Daley explained that he had to prioritize middle forwards who could also cover the edge. Despite this, Ford has come to terms with the decision, emphasizing that the team has a strong squad.
“I can’t argue with it,” Ford said. “I’ve just got to keep doing my job here and hopefully some accolades can come.”
Since making his first-grade debut with the Dragons in 2019, Ford had rarely been mentioned in Origin discussions until this year. He admitted that the omission has made him more determined than ever.
“I’m just stoked to be in the conversation,” Ford said. “You look back a couple of years and I probably wouldn’t have thought I could do it. It’s a big achievement for me to be in that conversation.”
In his first game since the snub, Ford played over 50 minutes at second row after injuries forced a reshuffle on the left edge. His performance impressed coach Andrew Webster, who praised his attitude during a challenging week.
“I reckon he would’ve received a lot of text messages this week,” Webster said. “(An Origin debut) hasn’t come yet, but if he keeps applying himself, it’ll come. We’re really proud of the way he’s handled this week.”

Key Highlights of Ford’s Season
- Ford has started 39 NRL games at second row, more than any player on the Blues’ six-man bench for game one.
- His consistent performances have placed him among the league’s top forwards in terms of run metres and post-contact metres.
- Despite the disappointment of being left out of the Origin squad, Ford remains focused on his club performance and future opportunities.

Looking Ahead
Ford’s journey from relative obscurity to being considered for an Origin debut highlights the importance of perseverance and hard work. While the path to representing New South Wales may be long, his determination and consistent form suggest that the opportunity is not far off.
As the season progresses, Ford will continue to prove his worth on the field, showing that he is ready for the next step in his career. With each game, he is building a case for inclusion in the Blues’ lineup, and fans are eagerly watching to see if he can finally earn his place in the Origin arena.
