A Deep Dive into the Life and Legacy of Lisa Marie Presley
Riley Keough, daughter of Lisa Marie Presley and granddaughter of Elvis and Priscilla Presley, shared a heartfelt conversation with Oprah Winfrey about her mother’s passing. The interview was filmed at Graceland, the family home, and offered an intimate look into the emotional journey of dealing with loss.
Riley revealed that she wasn’t entirely surprised by Lisa Marie’s sudden death on January 12, 2023, due to cardiac arrest. “The last three weeks that she was alive, I was with her a few times that I felt worried,” she said. “I think there was always sort of an undertone for me because of this feeling that I was on borrowed time with her. But there were a couple of interactions with her that she just felt detached in a way, a kind of resignation.”
This special, titled An Oprah Special: The Presleys – Elvis, Lisa Marie and Riley, aired on Channel 10 on October 9, 2024, and continues to draw attention to the legacy of Lisa Marie Presley and her children.

How Old Are Lisa Marie Presley’s Twins?

Why Did Lisa Marie Presley’s Son Pass Away?
Benjamin died by suicide in 2020. A spokesperson for Lisa Marie said at the time, “She is completely heartbroken, inconsolable and beyond devastated but trying to stay strong for her 11-year-old twins and her oldest daughter Riley. She adored that boy. He was the love of her life.”

As revealed in An Oprah Special: The Presleys — Elvis, Lisa Marie and Riley, Lisa Marie kept Benjamin’s body at home for two months after his passing, torn between burying him at Graceland or in Hawaii. She felt that keeping him close, even in death, would help her process her grief and give her more time to come to terms with the loss.
“She found a very compassionate funeral home owner who was a mother, and she said, ‘Well, look, if you do all these things, you can keep him in a room. You just have to have somebody tend (to the body),’” Riley told Oprah.
Benjamin was ultimately buried at Graceland, where Lisa Marie is also now buried.
How Did Lisa Marie Die?
On January 12, 2023, Lisa Marie Presley suffered a cardiac arrest in her LA home. She was rushed to hospital and died a few hours later. The cause of death was a small bowel obstruction, which was tied to previous bariatric surgery. Sections of Lisa’s bowel became trapped from scar tissue that formed after surgery. The report also noted a severe build-up of acids in her blood.
In August 2025, it was reported that Priscilla Presley was being sued by former business partners for breach of contract. In that lawsuit, they claimed that Priscilla withdrew life-saving treatment from her daughter to maintain control of the family estate. This claim was completely refuted by her legal team and family. They described the lawsuit as one of the “most shameful, ridiculous, salacious, and meritless lawsuits” they have ever seen. Additionally, the official autopsy report saw no evidence of foul play.
Riley Keough, Presley’s granddaughter (and the daughter of Lisa Marie Presley), stands behind her grandmother 100% and is equally disgusted with this latest, vicious attempt by Kruse to attempt to ruin her grandmother’s life.
The Estate After Lisa Marie’s Passing
Riley currently has sole ownership over the estate after a legal dispute with Priscilla following her mother’s death. Before Lisa Marie passed away, the Daisy Jones and the Six actress and her now-deceased brother Benjamin were the co-trustees.
