White House Accuses Media of Baseless Health Speculation
The White House has launched a series of social media attacks against CNN and other news outlets, accusing them of spreading unfounded claims about the president’s health. This comes after the president underwent his third medical checkup at Walter Reed in 13 months.
A social media account linked to the Trump White House, known as Rapid Response 47, shared multiple images of CNN reporters and commentators with their eyes closed or appearing to be drowsy. The posts suggested that these individuals were “napping” on air or “falling asleep,” while simultaneously accusing them of “baselessly speculating about President Trump’s health.”
One post questioned whether Kate Bolduan and her guest on CNN had fallen asleep during an interview, stating, “Their eyes are closed! What are they hiding about their health?”
Another message in all-caps asked, “@DanaBashCNN falls asleep ahead of her 55th birthday next month. What is going on?” A third post questioned, “Is ‘Dr. Jeremy Faust’ sundowning?”
A further post claimed, “Brianna Keilar says nap went ‘perfectly’ after falling asleep live on air. Rumor is she also failed her cognitive exam (unlike President Trump— whose was perfect!)”
These accusations came amid reports that CNN’s medical analyst, Dr. Jonathan Reiner, had made a startling assessment of the president’s health before his latest physical examination at Walter Reed Medical Center.
Reiner reportedly stated, “And finally, the president has severe daytime somnolence.” He added, “He falls asleep very often. He’s fallen asleep in the Oval Office on multiple occasions with people talking to him in the Cabinet Room, and was concerned yesterday that he might have fallen asleep at Arlington National Cemetery during Memorial Day observances.”
He continued, “Chronic insomnia is a severe illness. It can result in an increase in risk of dementia, a decrease in cognitive effects in older people.”
Following the president’s physical exam, the White House released a statement declaring that the president received a “perfect bill of health” from his doctors.
