Chargers coach reacts as QB skips workouts for Madison Beer

Jim Harbaugh Supports Justin Herbert’s Decision to Prioritize Personal Life

Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh has publicly expressed his support for quarterback Justin Herbert, who recently missed a portion of the team’s 2026 offseason program to be with his girlfriend, Madison Beer. The second phase of the Chargers’ offseason training concluded on May 22, and during the last two weeks, Herbert chose to attend the start of Beer’s Locket Tour, which began in Kraków, Poland, on May 11.

Harbaugh made it clear that he had no issue with Herbert’s absence, even going as far as offering him a ride to the airport. During a press conference, the coach said, “I was happy he went to support Madison on her music tour. Madison supports him at the football games.”

He also highlighted Herbert’s dedication to the team, noting that the quarterback is always present at voluntary and non-voluntary workouts. “The same guy that broke his hand, and then he was here the next day practicing,” Harbaugh added, referencing Herbert’s injury in December when he fractured his non-throwing hand. Despite this, Herbert returned to the field the next game, stiff-arming opponents.

Herbert has since returned to the offseason training program for Phase Three, which runs for four weeks. Over the next month, the Chargers will conduct up to 10 days of organized team practice, featuring drills such as 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11. The team will then hold its mandatory minicamp in June, consisting of three days of training.

Despite his busy football career, Herbert has continued to support Beer, making an appearance in her music video for the song “lovergirl,” which was released on May 8. The video features the couple walking along the beach, hugging on a park bench, and posing in a photo booth.

The couple confirmed their relationship in October after being spotted kissing on the sidelines of a Chargers game at SoFi Stadium. They have since been seen on several dates, including at the Clive Davis Pre-Grammy gala in January.

In April, Herbert posted a photo on Instagram of himself and Beer hugging, accompanied by the caption: “My world!”

Beer’s Locket Tour, supporting her latest album Locket, continues its European run through May 31 before heading to North America. A series of shows will take place from June 8 to July 13.

The Importance of Personal Relationships in Professional Sports

While professional athletes are often under immense pressure to maintain peak performance, their personal lives play a significant role in their overall well-being. For players like Herbert, balancing career demands with personal commitments can be challenging. However, having a supportive partner can make a substantial difference in their mental and emotional health.

Support systems, whether family, friends, or romantic partners, provide a sense of stability and motivation. In Herbert’s case, his relationship with Beer appears to be a positive influence, allowing him to stay grounded despite the high-stakes environment of professional football.

Moreover, public figures like Herbert and Beer often serve as role models for their fans. Their ability to navigate both personal and professional responsibilities highlights the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance. This balance not only benefits the individuals involved but also sets an example for others in similar situations.

Future Plans and Continued Support

As the Chargers prepare for the upcoming season, the focus remains on player development and team cohesion. With Phase Three of the offseason program underway, Herbert’s return to training signals a commitment to his role on the team. His presence at voluntary workouts and his willingness to push through injuries demonstrate his dedication to the sport.

Looking ahead, the team will continue to focus on building a strong foundation through organized team practices and minicamps. These activities are crucial for refining skills and fostering teamwork, especially in preparation for the regular season.

For Herbert, the support from both his coach and his girlfriend seems to be a key factor in his success. As he balances the demands of football with his personal life, his ability to manage these responsibilities effectively will likely play a significant role in his continued growth as a player.

With the Locket Tour set to continue into North America, Beer’s journey as an artist will undoubtedly remain a central part of her life. Meanwhile, Herbert’s commitment to his team and his personal relationships will continue to shape his career and public image.
