Fatima Sana’s Record-Breaking T20I Fifty

A Historic Achievement in Women’s T20 Cricket

Fatima Sana made history during the third and final T20I match between Pakistan women’s team and Zimbabwe women’s team at the National Stadium in Karachi on May 17. The Pakistan captain delivered an extraordinary performance, setting a new record for the fastest half-century in women’s T20I cricket. She scored an unbeaten 62 runs off just 19 balls, marking a significant milestone in her career.

At only 24 years old, Sana broke the previous record for the fastest women’s T20I fifty, which was held by Sophie Devine, Phoebe Litchfield, and Richa Ghosh at 18 balls. Her remarkable feat also tied the record for the fastest fifty in all women’s T20 cricket, matching the achievements of Marie Kelly from Warwickshire in 2022 and Laura Harris from Otago in the 2025 Super Smash.

Dominant Performance on the Field

After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Pakistan started their innings strongly, reaching 152/4 in the 17th over when Sana came to the crease. She immediately made an impact, hitting a boundary off her first ball against Michelle Mavunga. The right-handed batter then launched a fierce attack on the Zimbabwe bowlers, including four consecutive boundaries off Kudzai Chigora.

Sana really stepped up her game in the 19th over against Nomvelo Sibanda, scoring 4, 4, 6, 6, and 4 in a 24-run over to reach 48 off just 14 balls. Meanwhile, Saira Jabeen also played a crucial role, scoring a smooth half-century and finishing unbeaten on 50 off 32 balls.

Setting New Records

Sana reached her milestone with a couple of runs off Zimunu in the final over, then added two more boundaries to complete her spectacular innings. Her knock, which included 10 fours and two sixes, helped Pakistan post a total of 223/4. This score marked their second-highest in women’s T20Is, just behind the 237 they achieved earlier in the series.

Pakistan’s bowling unit also played a key role in the victory, as they restricted Zimbabwe to a mere 90 runs. Sadia Iqbal and Nashra Sandhu were the standout performers with the ball, taking five wickets between them. Sana also contributed with figures of 1/28 in 2.1 overs, showcasing her all-round skills in a match that will be remembered for years to come.
