Andoni Iraola’s New Chapter Begins
Andoni Iraola is currently in advanced discussions with Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen following his departure from Bournemouth. The Spanish manager has been making waves across Europe after leading the Cherries to a sixth-place finish in the Premier League, securing a spot in the Europa League for the first time in the club’s 127-year history.
According to reports from Sky in Germany, Iraola is in direct negotiations with Leverkusen as they look to appoint a new head coach. The Spaniard’s impressive work at Bournemouth has attracted attention from several top clubs, including Crystal Palace, who recently won the Conference League and are also interested in his services.
However, it seems that Crystal Palace now has less confidence in landing Iraola this summer, as talks with Leverkusen are progressing rapidly. The Eagles had previously shown interest in Iraola following Oliver Glasner’s departure from Selhurst Park.
In addition to Crystal Palace, Serie A giants AC Milan have also expressed interest in Iraola after sacking Massimiliano Allegri. The Italian club struggled to qualify for the Champions League, prompting them to seek a new manager.
Iraola confirmed he would be leaving Bournemouth in April, eager to take on a new challenge in his managerial career after three seasons with the Cherries. His decision to move on comes after a successful season where he guided Bournemouth into Europe for the first time in the club’s history.

The Basque coach ended the season on a high note, leading Bournemouth to a memorable campaign. The club has already found a replacement for Iraola in former RB Leipzig boss Marco Rose, who will take charge this summer ahead of an exciting Europa League campaign.
Iraola was also briefly linked with a potential move to Manchester United before the Red Devils opted to reward interim boss Michael Carrick with a two-year contract. Carrick was given the opportunity after leading the team to a Champions League qualification.
Iraola’s achievements at Bournemouth are all the more remarkable considering the challenges he faced. He had to rebuild the squad after losing key players such as Dean Huijsen, who moved to Real Madrid, Milos Kerkez, who joined Liverpool, and Ilya Zabarnyi, who signed with Paris Saint-Germain.
After taking over from Gary O’Neil in June 2023, following his arrival from Rayo Vallecano, Iraola quickly won over fans with his expansive and progressive style of football. His approach not only brought success on the pitch but also revitalized the atmosphere at the Vitality Stadium.
As Iraola prepares for his next chapter, the football world is watching closely to see where his career will take him next. Whether it’s in the Bundesliga or another top league, one thing is certain — his reputation as a skilled and innovative manager is well established.
