IPL 2026: Suryakumar Yadav Dismisses Wrist Injury Claims

Suryakumar Yadav Addresses Rumours of Wrist Injury

India’s T20 skipper and Mumbai Indians batter, Suryakumar Yadav, has firmly denied reports of suffering from a wrist injury that has allegedly affected his performance in the 2026 IPL. The controversy has been circulating on social media, prompting the star player to address the issue directly.

Suryakumar came into the 2026 season with high expectations after a stellar 2025 campaign where he scored over 700 runs. However, his performance dipped significantly this year, with only 270 runs in 13 games and two half-century scores. Despite this, he has taken the opportunity to clarify the situation and put the rumours to rest.

“I want to clear the air a little bit. The people talking about a wrist injury are either pure physios or people who don’t understand cricket. If I really had a wrist injury or such a problem, then the shots I’ve been playing in practice and matches—especially my flick shots, which are completely wrist-based and depend on hand-eye coordination—wouldn’t have been possible. But I don’t want to say much about that because it’s not in my control. These are all uncontrollable factors, and I don’t pay too much attention to them,” Suryakumar said, speaking to broadcasters ahead of MI’s clash against RR.

Focus on Hard Work and Performance

Despite the dip in form, Suryakumar emphasized that he has been working hard on his batting. His efforts were recognized earlier in the year when he was named Player of the Series against New Zealand, scoring 242 runs at a strike rate of 196.74. He followed this up with another strong performance in the T20 World Cup, where he played a crucial role in leading India to victory.

“As you said, I’ve worked hard throughout the season. I worked hard at the start of the year as well. In the New Zealand series, I won the Player of the Series award. Then I had a good World Cup, at least according to me. Then came the IPL. I didn’t score runs in the IPL, but I never stopped working hard,” he said.

Suryakumar added that he focuses on what he can control, which is his hard work and preparation. “I try to focus on what is in my hands. At the end of the day, performance is never guaranteed. What is in your control is hard work. So I keep working hard and try to put my best foot forward. If success comes, that’s great. If it doesn’t, that’s okay too. We’ll go back to the drawing board and work hard again. God is watching. Sooner or later, the rewards will come,” he concluded.

Impact on Mumbai Indians’ Season

Suryakumar’s poor form has also had an impact on Mumbai Indians’ performance in the 2026 season. The five-time champions finished in ninth place on the points table, securing only eight points from four wins in 14 games. This highlights the challenges the team has faced this season, especially with key players not performing at their best.

Despite the setbacks, Suryakumar remains optimistic about his future in the game. His dedication to improving his skills and maintaining a positive mindset is evident, and fans are hopeful that he will bounce back stronger in the coming seasons.

With his experience and determination, Suryakumar continues to be a vital asset for both the Indian national team and Mumbai Indians. As he works through the current challenges, there is no doubt that his passion for the game will drive him to achieve greater heights in the future.
