Jason Manford Shares His Weight Loss Journey and Exciting New Stage Project
Jason Manford, the well-known comedian, recently took to Lorraine’s ITV show to discuss his latest on-stage project and share insights into his personal weight loss journey. The 45-year-old, who has been making headlines for his impressive transformation, revealed that he has managed to lose three stone over an 18-month period, thanks to a combination of lifestyle changes and a newfound passion for padel tennis.
A New Stage Adventure
During his appearance on Lorraine, Jason spoke about his upcoming role in the comedy musical Something Rotten! alongside musical theatre star Marisha Wallace. The show, set in the Elizabethan era, sees Jason playing the role of playwright Nick Bottom, with Marisha portraying his wife. He described the production as “silly” and “fun,” highlighting that it is a rare blend of humor and musical theatre.
“I love musical theatre and I love comedy as well, and it’s really hard to find funny musicals – this is hilarious!” Jason said during the interview.
Dressed casually in a t-shirt and jeans, he shared his excitement about the project, which includes both acting and singing on stage. The show promises to be a lighthearted and entertaining experience for audiences across the UK.
The Weight Loss Journey
Jason’s weight loss journey has been a topic of interest for many, especially after fans noticed the change last year. He revealed that he started losing weight after taking up padel tennis, which became an obsession for him. Alongside a group of fellow dads, he found motivation and support through their fitness activities.
“I’ve been on it with padel. I’ve lost probably about three stone, I think, in around 18 months,” he said. “I got into it, and then I got a bit obsessed with it, and we’ve got a little fitness group, me and a load of dads.”
His doctor had also warned him that he would need knee replacements if he didn’t lose weight, as his knees were constantly sore. This prompted Jason to take a more structured approach to his health, including working with a personal trainer and a nutritionist.
Support from Family and Friends
Jason emphasized the importance of having a support system during his weight loss journey. He mentioned that he received encouragement from his family and also benefited from the Jason Manford Weight Loss Support Group on Facebook, which he originally created in 2017.
“It’s not just about throwing money at it; it’s about having someone else to be there for you,” he added. “We’re all in the same boat, trying to make it work.”
Fans have been vocal about their admiration for his transformation, with many commenting that he looks younger and more energetic. Some even questioned whether he was using weight loss injections like Ozempic to achieve his results.
Looking Back on His Past
Jason also reflected on his relationship with his weight throughout his life. He admitted that he has thought about it every day since becoming an adult. Small moments, such as struggling to put on clothes or getting out of breath while playing with his children, motivated him to make changes.
He tried various diets over the years but found that the most effective approach was simply eating less and moving more. His journey has been challenging, but he now finds a sense of satisfaction in his progress.
From Comedy to Confidence
In the past, Jason used his weight as a comedic tool, even adopting the nickname “the fat Michael Owen” after being heckled at the age of 17. He explained that he turned his experiences into jokes, taking the power away from the bullies and using it as a form of defense.
“I used to believe that larger comedians were the funniest because they had signs of having struggled in life,” he said. “I was concerned about not being found funny if I were slimmer.”
However, he now feels more confident and empowered, embracing his new look and sharing his story with others.
