Shubman Gill Encourages Team to Treat IPL 2026 Final as Just Another Match
Shubman Gill, the captain of the Gujarat Titans, has called on his teammates to approach the upcoming IPL 2026 final as just another game, rather than getting caught up in the hype surrounding the high-stakes encounter. His comments came after the team secured a convincing victory over the Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2 at New Chandigarh.
Gill played a pivotal role in the chase, delivering an outstanding unbeaten 104 runs off 53 deliveries. His performance was instrumental in guiding Gujarat to a massive 215-run target with eight balls to spare. This win has put the Gujarat Titans into the IPL 2026 final, where they will face the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Ahmedabad on May 31.
Following the match, Gill emphasized the importance of staying focused and playing the game of cricket without being overwhelmed by the occasion:
“Yes, but I think if you don’t play the occasion, it kind of brings the best out of us, and that’s what we spoke about even in this game as well,” said Gill. “Let’s take the equation out of the game and let’s just try to play good game of cricket and as long as we do that, even if we don’t end up on the winning side, that’s fine, but at least we gave our best.”
Key Performances That Helped Gujarat Titans Secure Victory
Chasing 215, the Gujarat Titans started strongly with their opening combination. Sai Sudharsan contributed significantly with a crucial 58 off 32 deliveries. However, his innings was cut short due to an unfortunate dismissal when he was given out hit wicket.
Gill, on the other hand, was in commanding form. He dominated the Rajasthan Royals’ attack, keeping the required run rate under control and forming key partnerships throughout his innings. His match-winning century has placed him in the spotlight, and the Gujarat Titans have now achieved one of their most remarkable chases of the tournament.
Rajasthan Royals’ Strong Batting Effort Falls Short
Earlier, when batting first, the Rajasthan Royals posted a formidable total of 214/6. The key player for Rajasthan was young star Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who delivered a stunning innings of 96 off just 47 deliveries. This performance once again highlighted why Sooryavanshi has been one of the standout performers of the season.
In the Eliminator against SRH, Sooryavanshi had already shown his talent with a 97 off 41 balls. Despite another impressive knock under pressure, it wasn’t enough to see Rajasthan home, as Gujarat’s batting lineup proved too strong on the night.
Gujarat Titans Aim for Second IPL Title
With this victory, the Gujarat Titans have once again reached an IPL final. Now, they are looking to claim their second IPL title, with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru standing in their way in Ahmedabad. The team is confident and focused on delivering their best performance in what promises to be a thrilling final.
