King Charles Presses Meghan and Kate to End Rift Before Royal Visit: Report

King Charles is reportedly hoping that his daughters-in-law, Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton, will resolve their long-standing tensions in the near future — ideally before the Duchess of Sussex returns to the United Kingdom in July. At 77 years old, the monarch believes that if Meghan and the Princess of Wales, both 44, can put aside their differences, it could help ease the broader family tensions within the royal household.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expected to travel to the U.K. in July for the 2027 Invictus Games, which will be hosted in Birmingham. The event marks a significant moment for the royal family, especially for the Duke of Sussex, who is set to play a central role in its organisation.

An insider recently told Heat that the monarch feels the wives have become emotionally central to the family dynamic. “Kate has William’s ear completely, and Meghan has Harry’s,” the source said. This emotional influence has led to speculation that resolving the feud between the two women could have a ripple effect on the entire royal family.

The Duke of Sussex and the Suits star are preparing to return to England later this summer to begin planning for the 2027 Invictus Games. Charles also hopes that a reconciliation between Kate and Meghan could lead to him seeing his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, sooner than expected.

Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton have not always been close. Their relationship has been marked by moments of tension over the years. When Meghan married Harry in 2018, reports suggested that Kate made her cry over the bridesmaids’ dresses. The former actress also detailed an incident involving Kate in her 2023 memoir, Spare.

According to Harry, the two women clashed during a 2018 event when Meghan asked Kate to loan her a tube of lip gloss. “Meg asked to borrow Kate’s lip gloss. An American thing. Meg forgot hers, worried she needed some, and turned to Kate for help,” he wrote. “Kate, taken aback, went into her handbag and reluctantly pulled out a small tube. Meg squeezed some onto her finger and applied it to her lips. Kate grimaced,” he added.

This incident highlights the underlying tensions between the two women, which have occasionally made headlines. Despite their differences, there have been moments of cooperation, particularly when it comes to their husbands and the well-being of their children.

Prince Harry is reportedly hoping that King Charles will open the 2027 Invictus Games alongside him as a way to mend their relationship. According to reports, Harry “desperately” wants his father to be involved in the opening ceremony. A source told The Sun in January, “Harry wants it to happen both for the games, and for their relationship. It’s his dream to have his father by his side.”

“Invictus always invites Heads of State, but Harry wants to go further with Charles involved in the opening ceremony,” the source added. The insider also noted that both men “appear to want a reconciliation,” suggesting that the games are a “perfect opportunity for them to work alongside each other.”

“The sight of them on stage when it opens would be heart-warming and in the spirit of the occasion,” they said. “People helping to plan the games are convinced it will happen and are planning for Charles to play a role in the opening ceremony.”
