Charli XCX is preparing to unveil her latest album, titled “Music, Fashion, Film,” on July 24. The album cover has already generated a lot of buzz, featuring renowned figures in the music, fashion, and film industries: rock musician John Cale, designer Marc Jacobs, and director Martin Scorsese. These three individuals are widely respected in their respective fields, making the cover a statement in itself.
Charli described the experience of working on the album cover as “shook.” This term, often used by younger generations to express surprise or awe, seems to have taken on a new meaning for her. In an interview with Shaad magazine, she shared her thoughts on the phrase:
“You know how people use the term ‘shook?’ … I never really have felt genuinely shook before, I think,” she said. “And once we finished that shoot, me and [photographer] Aidan [Zamiri] were just … it was like this out-of-body experience and I turned to him and I was like, ‘I think this is what shook means.’”

The inclusion of these three icons on the album cover raised questions among fans, but Charli provided some clarity. She explained that she had personal connections with each of them, which made it feel right to feature them on the cover. Her collaboration with John Cale began with the soundtrack for the film “Wuthering Heights,” while her relationship with Marc Jacobs includes several fashion campaigns.
Regarding her connection with Martin Scorsese, Charli emphasized the educational aspect. She noted that she’s had the opportunity to engage in deep conversations with the director about film and his extensive knowledge of cinema.
“It’s great to see Charli give fans insight into the mystery behind this cover, because it’s been a bit of a head-scratcher on why she picked these men. But, now we have the full backstory.”
