Real Madrid’s Mega Bid for Julian Alvarez Rejected Amidst Club Feud
Real Madrid has confirmed a substantial €150 million (£130 million) offer for striker Julian Alvarez, only to see it emphatically rejected by Club Atletico de Madrid. The Spanish giants’ bid comes shortly after club president Florentino Perez secured his re-election until 2030, having pledged to pursue a marquee “Galactico” signing if victorious. Perez appears to be making good on that promise, with the club issuing an official statement detailing the rejected proposal.
The statement from Real Madrid read: “Real Madrid CF announces that, following today’s Board of Directors meeting, it has made an offer of 150 million euros to Club Atletico de Madrid for the federative rights of the player Julian Álvarez. After studying and evaluating it, Atletico de Madrid has thanked the club for the offer, made within the framework of the good relations existing between both clubs, and has rejected it, referring to the player’s release clause.”

This development has ignited a fierce rivalry, not only between Real Madrid and Atletico but also involving FC Barcelona, who have also been linked with the highly-rated forward. Arsenal have also been reported to be monitoring Alvarez’s situation.
Atletico Madrid has not shied away from expressing their displeasure, engaging in a public spat with both Barcelona and now Real Madrid. Previously, the club launched a series of pointed social media posts accusing Barcelona of orchestrating a “smear campaign” against them. This animosity has now extended to their cross-town rivals.

In response to Real Madrid’s official statement, Atletico took to X (formerly Twitter) to issue their own clarification. Their post sarcastically addressed their “neighbors” and retorted:
- “Your video of the Pope saying he was also an Atletico fan was cut short (in reference to the Pope visiting Real Madrid on Sunday).”
- “You may have mistaken politeness for gratitude, but just to be clear: we are not thanking you for anything.”
- “We are neither considering nor evaluating any offers for Julian.”
- “How could we not get along, when you make us laugh even more than Barcelona.”
Furthermore, Atletico added a stinging postscript: “P.S. Taking advantage of the good relationship with your new president, let’s see if you stop ‘stealing’ players from our Academy. Thanks a lot, @realmadrid!” This jab appears to reference past player transfers between the two Madrid clubs. They had previously quoted Real Madrid’s announcement with a series of laughing emojis, underscoring their disdain for the approach.

The ongoing feud with Barcelona also saw Atletico employ a similar tactic. They shared a series of edited images featuring Barcelona’s young stars, such as Lamine Yamal, Pedri, and Raphinha, depicted in Atletico kits. The captions were mock transfer offers, sarcastically proposing ludicrous deals involving concert tickets, annual subscriptions, and bags of sunflower seeds, all designed to belittle Barcelona’s perceived transfer tactics.

Julian Alvarez, who has reportedly scored 49 goals in 106 appearances for Atletico, is rumoured to believe that Barcelona offers him a more promising path to silverware than Arsenal or his current club. There have been no reports detailing his thoughts on a potential move to Real Madrid.
The 26-year-old forward currently has four years remaining on his contract, which includes a hefty €500 million (£430 million) release clause. While initial reports suggested Atletico might consider a £130 million offer, the club’s strong stance and rejection of Real Madrid’s substantial bid have seemingly quashed these rumours.
Speculation surrounding Alvarez’s future was further fuelled when his agent, Fernando Hidalgo, shared a social media post indicating he was travelling to Barcelona.
Atletico Madrid also used the opportunity to address what they perceive as a sustained “smear campaign” against their players, particularly from Barcelona. They categorically denied making an offer to FC Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, to join their scouting team in Brazil.
The club stated: “No, Atletico de Madrid would never do something like that. However, in recent months, we’ve been suffering a smear campaign against one of our players. Leaked information with ulterior motives, ‘fake news’, constant disrespect, the cule version of the propaganda machine inventing little stories, calls before direct matchups.”

They concluded with a pointed remark: “But of course, it wouldn’t occur to us either to have the referees’ vice president on our payroll or to resort to political favors to register players. RESPECT and VALUES.”
Real Madrid, meanwhile, are eager to rebound from a disappointing season that saw them relinquish the LaLiga title to Barcelona and exit the Champions League prematurely. If Alvarez were to make a move, he would join an already formidable attacking lineup at the Bernabéu, potentially alongside stars like Vinicius Jr., Kylian Mbappe, and Jude Bellingham. It is understood that Alvarez has informed Atletico of his desire to depart, adding another layer of complexity to this ongoing transfer saga.
