Celebrating Excellence: Three Outstanding Students Named Oklahoman’s Student of the Week
The Oklahoman recently announced three exceptional students who have been chosen as this week’s Student of the Week. These individuals exemplify dedication, leadership, and academic excellence, making them true role models for their peers.
Rayam Elhami – Dove Science Academy
Rayam Elhami from Dove Science Academy has demonstrated remarkable growth and leadership throughout his high school career. He has maintained straight A’s while completing an impressive 432 hours of community service. Beyond his academic achievements, Elhami founded and led both the robotics and drone programs at his school. His hard work and commitment have earned him a scholarship to Columbia University to study aerospace engineering. What makes Elhami even more impressive is that he managed to achieve all of this while balancing school, a part-time job, and mentoring other students.
Wyatt Guthery – Harrah High School
Wyatt Guthery, a sophomore at Harrah High School, has already made a name for himself as a dedicated student-athlete. He maintains an impressive GPA of 3.68 while competing at an elite level in wrestling. His efforts on the mat paid off this year when he earned the prestigious title of state qualifier in his weight class. Guthery’s dedication to both academics and athletics showcases his strong work ethic and determination.
Yaylin Maldonado – Northwest Classen High School
Yaylin Maldonado, a driven senior at Northwest Classen High School, has taken on multiple challenges simultaneously. She began her high school and college journeys at the same time, showcasing her commitment to education. As a dedicated musician in the school’s renowned orchestra, she has balanced rigorous Honors and AP coursework with college-level Music Theory. This year, she expanded her skills by enrolling in the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation certified Automotive Services program at Metro Tech. In addition to her academic pursuits, Maldonado competes on the Lady Knights soccer and softball teams and serves as a member of the National Honor Society. Her commitment to the community is evident through her regular volunteer work at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. After graduation, she plans to study Psychology at the University of Central Oklahoma.
