Cody Johnson Shines at Stagecoach Festival with Surprise Collaboration
On Friday, April 24, country singer Cody Johnson took the stage for a headlining performance at the Stagecoach Festival, marking the first night of the event. The 38-year-old artist delivered an unforgettable set that included a special surprise guest: the legendary R&B group Boyz II Men.
During his performance, Johnson began by singing a cover of Boyz II Men’s iconic 1994 hit, “On Bended Knee.” Before long, the members of Boyz II Men joined him on stage to perform the song together. The unexpected collaboration left the audience in awe and added a unique touch to Johnson’s set. The current members of Boyz II Men include Nathan Morris, Wanyá Morris, and Shawn Stockman, who all contributed to the memorable moment.

This performance came just a week after Johnson announced the release of his new studio album, Banks of Trinity, scheduled for June 26. In a press release, Johnson shared his inspiration behind the project. “On this album, I wanted to tell the story about my childhood,” he said. He also described how one of the songs, “Banks of the Trinity,” evoked powerful memories for him. “When I heard the song for the first time, it was like this portrait showed in my head of memories that I had honestly forgotten,” he explained. “It just took me back home to Sebastopol, Texas, where I grew up on the Trinity River.”
Johnson also released a new single titled “I Want You” as part of his upcoming album. This follows the success of his previous album, Leather, which earned him the 2024 CMA Album of the Year award. That project featured hits such as “’Til You Can’t,” “The Painter,” “Dirt Cheap,” and “I’m Gonna Love You” featuring Carrie Underwood.

In addition to his music career, Johnson reflected on his journey at the Stagecoach Festival. He shared how far he has come since his early days performing on smaller stages. “I’ll never forget the first time I got the call to play Stagecoach,” he said. “We were on one of the smaller stages, and I remember wondering whether anyone would even know our songs.” Now, he is honored to headline the Mane Stage. “What a ride. I hope y’all bring the energy … because it’s gonna get western,” he added.
Beyond Stagecoach, Johnson is currently on a headlining tour that will conclude in Dublin, Ireland, in November. Fans can look forward to more performances and new music as he continues to build on his successful career.
Throughout his career, Johnson has consistently connected with his audience through heartfelt storytelling and powerful performances. With the release of Banks of Trinity, he is set to share even more of his personal journey and musical growth with fans around the world.
