Oborevwori Claims Top Gov Honor at Independent’s Anniversary

Recognition of Leadership and Urban Transformation

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, was honored with two prestigious awards at the Silver Jubilee Awards of Independent Newspapers. These accolades, which include the Outstanding Independent Governor and Best Independent Governor in Urban Renewal (2025), were presented during a ceremony held at Eko Hotels and Suites. The event marked the organization’s 25th anniversary and celebrated outstanding achievements across various sectors.

The awards were determined through a combination of public voting and rigorous evaluation by a jury and the organization’s board. Steve Omanufeme, Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of Independent Newspapers, expressed his congratulations to the recipients and highlighted that further activities to commemorate the silver jubilee would continue later in the year.

Governor Oborevwori was represented at the event by his deputy, Monday Onyeme, who emphasized that the awards reflect the administration’s significant impact since taking office in 2023. Speaking with journalists after the ceremony, Onyeme stated, “It is very evident to all Nigerians, especially Deltans, that our governor has significantly changed the narrative since assuming office in 2023. Today, he stands out as one of the best governors in the area of urban renewal. The impact is visible and undeniable.”

Infrastructure Development and Urban Renewal

Onyeme pointed to ongoing infrastructure development across Delta State, noting that the state, being one of Nigeria’s most urbanized regions, has experienced rapid transformation within a short period. He highlighted several key projects, including flyovers in Ughelli, Warri, Effurun, and Enerhen Junction, which have improved traffic flow and enhanced the functionality of major urban centers.

Additionally, the administration has delivered approximately 300 kilometers of roads in the past year, a major step towards addressing infrastructure deficits. Onyeme remarked, “When organizations carry out independent assessments and recognize this administration, it does not come as a surprise. The results speak for themselves.”

He added that the recognition would serve as motivation for the government to sustain its development efforts. “We have not rested, and we will not rest. We were elected to serve the people of Delta State, and we remain committed to that promise. The more responsibility we are given, the more we will deliver,” he said.

A Legacy of Service and Commitment

The deputy governor further noted that Oborevwori remains focused on leaving a lasting legacy, driven by what he described as a strong commitment to service. “His desire is to ensure that before he leaves office after his second tenure, the difference will be clear and undeniable. He aims to set a standard that future administrations must strive to meet or surpass,” he added.

Continued Progress and Future Goals

The governor’s administration has demonstrated a clear focus on improving the quality of life for residents through strategic investments in urban development and infrastructure. These efforts have not only transformed the physical landscape of Delta State but have also redefined the expectations of governance in the region.

With a vision centered on sustainable growth and long-term impact, the administration continues to prioritize projects that address both immediate needs and future challenges. This approach has garnered widespread support from citizens and stakeholders alike, reinforcing the belief that effective leadership can drive meaningful change.

As the celebration of the Silver Jubilee continues, the recognition of Governor Oborevwori’s work serves as a testament to the power of dedicated public service. It highlights the importance of transparency, accountability, and innovation in shaping a better future for communities.
