Tambwe: Rayon’s Title Battle Isn’t Finished

Rayon Sports’ Determination to Keep Title Hopes Alive

Rayon Sports forward Gloire Tambwe has made it clear that his team is not ready to give up on the title race, even though they are currently eight points behind APR FC. The Burundi international played a crucial role in the Blues’ 2-0 victory over Amagaju FC on Sunday at Kamena Stadium in Huye. This win has kept their slim chances of securing the championship alive.

The gap between Rayon Sports and APR FC could be reduced to just five points if the Blues manage to defeat their rivals when the two teams face off again on Saturday, May 2, at Amahoro Stadium. Tambwe emphasized that the team’s goal after returning from Huye was to beat APR FC and reignite their title challenge.

“Our job is to work hard and try to win our games, which will help us reduce the gap. We, as players, know it will be a tough match, but we owe our fans a victory,” Tambwe said. “I’m happy to score and help the team get all three points today, but our focus now is on securing another three points against APR.”

Rayon Sports have struggled against APR FC in recent encounters, remaining winless in their last six meetings across all competitions. They have suffered three losses and recorded three draws in that span. Their last victory over the army side came on August 12, 2023, when they defeated APR FC 3-0 in the FERWAFA Super Cup at Kigali Pele Stadium.

“We owe it to our supporters to beat APR. It’s our responsibility to fight for all three points. We are building a strong mentality, and we believe we can overcome them,” Tambwe added ahead of the derby.
