Explorers Podcast: IRIS Metals Boosts Lithium Story with US Rubidium Edge

Explorers Podcast: IRIS Metals Adds US Rubidium Edge to Lithium Story

Barry FitzGerald, the ‘Garimpeiro’ columnist, returns for another episode of The Explorers Podcast. In this instalment, Barry engages in a conversation with Matt Hartman, the US operations president of IRIS Metals (ASX:IR1). The discussion focuses on the company’s recent developments at the Beecher lithium project in South Dakota, where an upgraded mineral resource has been announced.

The newly updated resource includes a high-grade rubidium component, marking it as the first mineral resource in the United States containing rubidium. This discovery is significant, as it highlights the potential for diversification in the company’s portfolio and opens up new avenues for exploration and development.

The Beecher project is fully permitted and has a history of mining activity. It shows promise for near-term direct shipping ore (DSO) production, with ongoing discussions about offtake agreements. This indicates that the project is not only in the exploration phase but also moving towards operational readiness.

Beyond the Beecher project, IRIS Metals is also advancing the Finley Basin tungsten project in Montana. This project targets a historic high-grade underground reserve, which is set to be confirmed through drilling starting in July. The surge in tungsten prices further underscores the strategic importance of this initiative.

With its exposure to lithium, rubidium, and tungsten across critical mineral jurisdictions in the United States, IRIS Metals is positioning itself for a period of significant growth and catalysts in the second half of the year. The company’s focus on multiple commodities reflects a well-diversified approach to navigating the evolving mineral market.
