Hazlewood’s Unbelievable IPL Breakthrough

A Dominant Performance by Hazlewood and Kumar

In a thrilling display of skill and precision, Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood and his teammate Bhuvneshwar Kumar played a pivotal role in leading the Royal Challengers Bengaluru to a convincing nine-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The match saw Delhi Capitals collapse under pressure, scoring just 75 runs, marking their third lowest total in the tournament.

Hazlewood, a seasoned player known for his prowess in both Test and white-ball cricket, delivered an outstanding performance, taking 4-12. His teammate, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, also contributed significantly with a figure of 3-5. Their combined efforts were instrumental in dismantling the Delhi batting lineup, showcasing their ability to adapt to varying conditions and maintain consistent pressure.

Bengaluru managed to chase down the target with ease, reaching 1-77 in just 6.3 overs. Virat Kohli, who holds the record for the most runs in IPL history, continued his stellar form with an unbeaten 23. This innings marked a significant milestone for Kohli as he crossed the 9000-run mark in the tournament.

Kohli’s performance was highlighted by two back-to-back sixes against Thangarasu Natarajan, which sealed the victory for Bengaluru. Devdutt Padikkal also made a significant contribution, scoring 34 not out off just 13 balls. His aggressive batting included two sixes and two fours in a single over from Kyle Jamiesen, demonstrating his ability to accelerate the run rate effectively.

Bengaluru captain Rajat Patidar expressed surprise at how the game unfolded, stating, “Even I am surprised (at how the game went).” The team’s success can be attributed to the strong performances from Hazlewood and Kumar, who dominated the Delhi top order with their swing bowling and yorkers.

Hazlewood, aged 35, has faced challenges this season due to injuries, missing key matches for Australia, including the entire Ashes series against England and withdrawing from the Twenty20 World Cup. Despite these setbacks, he remains a vital asset for his team. “When that ball was nice and hard, it was tough to bat,” Hazlewood remarked, highlighting the conditions that favored his bowling.

The home team struggled early on, collapsing to 6-8 within the first 23 balls of the game. Impact player Abishek Porel was the highest scorer for Delhi with 30, helping the team surpass its previous lowest total of 66 from 2017.

Kumar’s perfect yorker dismissed debutant Sahil Parakh on the second ball, while Hazlewood took the wickets of Lokesh Rahul and Sameer Rizvi off consecutive deliveries. Delhi lost half of its side in just 16 balls, with only five runs on the board when Kumar found the edges of Tristan Stubbs and Patel.

Hazlewood completed the top-order demolition by dismissing Nitish Rana with a catch in the fourth over to wide slip. Bengaluru maintained its position as second in the table after securing six wins from eight games, while Delhi dropped to seventh place.
