The Rise of Fearless Young Batters in IPL 2026
Delhi Capitals’ wicketkeeper-batter, KL Rahul, has praised the bold approach of young Indian batters in IPL 2026. He highlighted that their mindset of hitting sixes aligns perfectly with the demands of modern T20 cricket.
A New Era of Run-Scoring
The 2026 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has seen a shift in focus towards young Indian batters taking on the role of run-scorers for their teams. Players like Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh, and Cooper Connolly have made a significant impact with their ability to hit sixes and deliver crucial performances. Sameer Rizvi and Ayush Mhatre also stood out before an injury ended Mhatre’s season.
Emerging Talent in Indian Cricket
KL Rahul expressed his admiration for the new generation of cricketers, stating that they are making a big impact. “Vaibhav Suryavanshi has taken world cricket by storm. Scoring two centuries at the age of 15 is something I never even dreamt of doing,” he said. He also praised Ayush Mhatre for his contributions to CSK’s quick scoring.
Changing the Game with Fearless Play
According to Rahul, these young players are changing the way T20 cricket is played. They do not fear any bowler, whether it’s a world-class player like Jasprit Bumrah or a seasoned campaigner like Pat Cummins. “They go after every ball with the same intent, regardless of the situation,” he added.
Mindset That Defines Modern T20 Cricket
Rahul emphasized that the mindset of these young players is rare and essential for modern T20 cricket. “They don’t care if it’s the first over or the last. They just see the ball and want to hit it out of the park,” he said. This kind of determination is what makes them stand out in the fast-paced game.
Transformation of Batting Culture in India
Rahul explained how the IPL has transformed the batting culture in India, leading to the emergence of a new generation of six-hitters. “Five years ago, we weren’t producing as many six-hitting batters as England or Australia. Now, things have changed, thanks to the IPL,” he noted.
Learning from the Youngsters
Rahul also mentioned that he has tried to incorporate some of the techniques and preparation methods of these young players into his own game. “I spoke to Abhishek Sharma recently. What I’ve learned is that their preparation gives them confidence. It all comes down to how hard they train. I’ve tried to bring that into my own game as well,” he concluded.
