A Legendary Lineup for a Summer of Music
For fans of salt water, acoustic guitars, and all-round good vibes, the upcoming summer is shaping up to be an unforgettable musical journey. Three of the most iconic names in modern roots music are joining forces for a monumental triple bill that promises to bring the perfect end to the season.
Jack Johnson Returns to Australia
Jack Johnson is making a highly anticipated return to Australia, headlining this stacked lineup. His previous tour in 2022 was a massive success, with sold-out dates across the country. Known as one of the key players in the roots explosion of the 2000s, Johnson’s laid-back acoustic balladry and knack for crafting pop hooks have made him a superstar both in Australia and internationally.
His debut album Brushfire Fairytales was a defining work of its time, and his follow-up albums have consistently topped the ARIA charts upon release. Notably, his 2003 album On & On achieved platinum status six times in Australia. Johnson will also be showcasing tracks from his new soundtrack to SURFILMUSIC, a documentary that chronicles his journey from professional surfer to filmmaker and multi-platinum musician.
Interestingly, Johnson’s first Australian tour in 2001 saw him perform at Bluesfest before his friend Ben Harper closed out the festival. This year, Harper will return the favor by joining these shows.
Ben Harper: A Titan of Roots Music
Ben Harper is nothing short of a titan of roots music, having made a significant impact since the mid-90s. He gained recognition for scorching jams like Ground On Down and Excuse Me Mr, and later broke into the mainstream with hits such as Steal My Kisses and Diamonds On The Inside. His live performances are always a highlight, and his many visits to Australia have solidified his reputation as a masterful performer.
Harper will take the stage solo and acoustic, delivering a performance that is sure to delight fans. His presence adds another layer of authenticity and energy to the already impressive lineup.
John Butler: An Australian Icon
Rounding out this legendary triple bill is Australian icon John Butler. At the height of his career, Butler was considered one of the biggest peers of Johnson and Harper, thanks to massive records such as Sunrise Over Sea, Grand National, and April Uprising, which found their way into countless CD collections across the country.
Butler remains a force in the music scene, with his latest album Prism managing to “simultaneously hearken back to the ‘one-man band’ vigour of his early busking days while hurtling forward into a bold new era.” His contributions to the Australian music landscape continue to resonate deeply with fans.
Special Guest in Sydney
In addition to the main acts, Sydney will see the inclusion of ARIA-winning Indigenous visionary Emily Wurramara. Her presence adds a unique and inspiring dimension to the event, highlighting the importance of cultural representation in the music industry.
