SUVs Defy Trends and Maintain Value

Mitsubishi has confirmed that there will be no price increases for its petrol-powered Outlander mid-size SUV range in Australia. The Outlander will remain available from $39,990 (before on-road costs), with prices extending up to $58,740 for the top-spec grade.

The vehicle will continue to offer both five and part-time seven-seat configurations, as well as front-wheel and all-wheel drive setups. The Mazda CX-5 is priced similarly to the Outlander, while the hybrid-only Toyota RAV4 is more expensive than both of these competitors.

The 2026 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has also been updated for the Australian market, aiming to compete with the Toyota RAV4 plug-in hybrid, Kia Sportage, and BYD Sealion 5 & 6.

A special new family SUV has arrived in Australia—the 2026 Mitsubishi Outlander’s Black Edition variant. This version returns after its success in 2024, featuring several blacked-out elements such as 20-inch alloy wheels and synthetic leather seats. It will only be available in a front-wheel drive seven-seater configuration.

This announcement comes after Mitsubishi increased the prices of the plug-in hybrid versions of the Outlander earlier this year. Buyers can expect a near $20K increase to switch from a petrol unit to a PHEV.

The Outlander will be powered by the same 2.5-litre petrol engine, producing 135kW and 244Nm, paired with a continuously variable transmission.

Mitsubishi stated that the car will retain the Australian-developed suspension and power steering tunes introduced in 2025. Inside, there is a 12.3-inch central touchscreen and a similarly sized digital driver display, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto offered as standard.

The Outlander remains Mitsubishi’s best-selling car in Australia, with over 22,000 sales recorded in 2025. Despite general sales dips, it continues to be one of the brand’s top performers.

The new Outlander is set to arrive at dealerships next month.
