A Love Story That Spanned the Stage and Screen
Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster’s journey from co-stars to a celebrity couple has captured the hearts of fans around the world. Their relationship, which began as a professional collaboration, has blossomed into something much more meaningful. The two first met in 2003, when Jackman was still married to his ex-wife Deborra-Lee Furness. However, it wasn’t until 2025 that they officially made their relationship public.
The pair’s romance took a significant turn in 2026 when they attended the Met Gala together, marking their debut as a couple. This event sparked widespread speculation about whether they were secretly engaged, especially after photos surfaced of Foster wearing a noticeable ring on her left hand. While neither Jackman nor Foster have confirmed these rumors, their chemistry and affection for each other are undeniable.

Broadway Beginnings
Their love story actually began years before their official relationship was revealed. It all started backstage at a performance of Thoroughly Modern Millie, where Sutton was starring as the titular character. In 2021, she shared a throwback photo from that moment, captioning it, “Backstage at Thoroughly Modern Millie almost 20 years ago. Millie and Wolverine. Harold and Marian. Thank you @jeremydanielphoto for the great pic!”
Five years later, the two reconnected during the Broadway production of Shrek: The Musical, where Sutton played Princess Fiona. They even posed for photos with their co-stars, John Tartaglia and Christopher Sieber, who played Pinocchio and Lord Farquaad respectively.

Sparks Flying on Stage
In 2019, the pair reunited for the Broadway revival of The Music Man, where they played Harold Hill and Marian Paroo. Sutton expressed her excitement about working with Jackman, calling him “a great friend and the best onstage partner in the world.” She also praised his charisma, saying she felt “the luckiest woman in the world” performing alongside him.
During the show’s run, their connection became evident. Jackman even got the audience to sing for Sutton during one of the performances, a moment she described as “evil, horrible, WONDERFUL.”

Finding Love Again
In September 2023, Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness announced their separation after 27 years of marriage. Just over a year later, Sutton filed for divorce from her husband of 10 years, Ted Griffin. By January 2025, dating rumors between Jackman and Foster were rampant, with the couple spotted holding hands in Santa Monica and Sutton attending the opening night of Jackman’s concert series, From New York, with Love.
They didn’t make their relationship official until October 2025 at the LA premiere of Jackman’s film, Song Sung Blue. Later that year, they celebrated the new year in Costa Rica, where engagement rumors began circulating. The couple was seen holding hands and getting cozy in the ocean, hinting at a future filled with love and possibility.
As they continue to grow closer, fans can’t help but wonder what the future holds for this beloved couple. With their recent Met Gala appearance and the buzz around their potential engagement, it seems that their love story is far from over.
