Brazil’s 2026 World Cup Roster Announcement
Brazil is aiming to overcome the challenges of recent World Cup campaigns as they prepare for the 2026 tournament, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The five-time world champions, who last won the title in 2002, have not advanced beyond the quarterfinals in the five tournaments since. With a new era beginning under coach Carlo Ancelotti, the team is looking to restore its legacy on the global stage.
Ancelotti, known for his success at the club level, has already begun shaping the squad for the upcoming World Cup. However, there are still uncertainties surrounding the final list, particularly regarding the potential inclusion of star player Neymar.
When Will Brazil’s Final Squad Be Announced?
The final roster for Brazil’s 2026 World Cup campaign is set to be revealed on Monday, May 18, during a special event at the Museum of Tomorrow in Rio de Janeiro at 3 p.m. ET. The event will include media representatives, sponsors, and “special guests” who will witness Ancelotti announce the selected players.
According to FIFA regulations, teams must submit a provisional squad by May 11 and finalize their list no later than May 30. This ensures that all preparations are in place before the tournament begins.
How Many Players Are in Brazil’s World Cup Roster?
The final squad must consist of between 23 and 26 players. Ancelotti is expected to name 26 players, as reported by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF). At least three of these players must be goalkeepers, with the rest covering various positions across the field.
Ancelotti has a strong core of players who are almost certain to be included, such as Alisson, Marquinhos, and Casemiro. However, some spots remain open, especially in the attacking and full-back positions. Up to 27 team officials will accompany the squad during the tournament.
Will Neymar Be Part of the Squad?
Neymar’s participation has been a topic of much discussion. After returning to Santos this year, partly with the intention of securing a spot in Ancelotti’s plans, he was left out of the March international fixtures due to fitness concerns. His time at Santos has been challenging, with the team struggling and facing criticism from fans.
This has led to several incidents, including an altercation with Robinho Jr. during training, which prompted Neymar to issue an apology. Despite this, reports suggest that Neymar was included in the provisional World Cup roster.
Can Brazil Replace Players in Their Roster?
Teams are allowed to make changes to their squad due to injury or illness up to 24 hours before their first match of the tournament. Medical documentation must be submitted to FIFA for approval. Brazil’s Group C opener against Morocco is scheduled for June 13 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, meaning any replacements would need to be finalized by June 12.
After that date, the squad is considered final. However, there is an exception for goalkeepers: if any of the three goalkeepers are injured or ill, they can be replaced by another keeper from the provisional list at any point during the competition, subject to FIFA approval.
Where Will Brazil Stay During the World Cup?
Brazil’s team will base themselves in New Jersey for the duration of the tournament. They will stay at The Ridge hotel in Basking Ridge, described as a private and luxurious venue offering every comfort.
Training sessions will take place at the New York Red Bulls’ brand new Columbia Park Training Center in Morristown, New Jersey. This 80-acre, $100 million facility was recently opened and is considered one of the most innovative soccer training centers in North America.
