Controversial Incident During IPL 2026 Match
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) was a high-scoring encounter that kept fans on the edge of their seats. In the end, the home team, CSK, managed to secure a five-wicket victory at Chepauk, much to the delight of the local supporters. However, the game was not without its controversies.
During the match, an incident sparked widespread discussion when a man wearing an LSG jersey was seen using a mobile phone near the team’s dugout. The moment was captured when Josh Inglis hit Akeal Hosein for a six. The individual in question was spotted talking on his phone while in the vicinity of the dugout. This is not the first time such an incident has occurred. Earlier, Romi Bhinder, the Rajasthan Royals team manager, was caught using a mobile phone in the dugout, which led to a fine of INR 1 Lakh from the BCCI.
Fans were taken aback by the sight of mobile phones being used near the dugout during the CSK vs LSG game. It was later clarified that the man in question was not part of the visiting side’s dugout. However, there is still no confirmation about where he was seated when he was photographed by the cameras.
Understanding PMOA
The term PMOA stands for Player and Match Officials Area, which is a critical component of the Anti-Corruption guidelines in cricket. This area includes the dressing room, player and official dugouts, the third umpire room, and other spaces where teams have meals. Most importantly, it encompasses the rooms where the match referee is stationed.
According to the rules, only individuals with authority are permitted to enter these areas. The use of mobile phones or any electronic devices is strictly prohibited. Even team owners or other officials are not allowed to access these zones. These regulations are not exclusive to the IPL; they are also applied during international cricket matches and ICC events.
A Thrilling Victory for Chennai Super Kings
In a closely contested match, the CSK emerged victorious with a thrilling five-wicket win. Josh Inglis played a pivotal role for the visiting side, scoring a top score of 85 runs. Shahbaz Ahmed then provided the finishing touches with a crucial 43 not out from 27 balls, helping Lucknow post a formidable total of 203 runs.
Historically, Chennai Super Kings had not chased down a target of over 180 since 2019. However, this trend changed thanks to Urvil Patel, who scored an impressive 65 off just 23 balls. His innings included two boundaries and eight sixes, showcasing his aggressive batting style. Patel reached his fifty off just 13 balls, which is the joint-fastest in IPL history.
Shivam Dube then sealed the victory for CSK with two sixes in the final over, securing a five-wicket win with four balls remaining. The win was a testament to the team’s resilience and ability to perform under pressure.
