Dyson unveils smart air purifying fan with tracking camera

Dyson has always been known for pushing the boundaries of what household appliances can do, and its latest release is no different. The Dyson Find+Follow Purifier Cool is an $850 bladeless fan that uses a built-in camera to track your movements in the room and direct airflow precisely where you are. This innovative approach sets it apart from traditional fans and highlights Dyson’s commitment to blending advanced technology with practical design.

The device features a periscope-style camera and a 17-point detection system that identifies human shapes. Whether you’re walking around your kitchen or lounging on the couch, the fan automatically adjusts its angle to keep the breeze directed at you. If another person enters the room, the fan will sweep back and forth up to 350 degrees, ensuring both individuals receive a comfortable flow of air.

Privacy is a major concern when it comes to devices with cameras, and Dyson has addressed this by stating that the system is designed only to detect presence, not to recognize faces. According to the company, the video feed is processed locally on the device, analyzed in real time, and then immediately deleted. The fan does not send images to the cloud or identify specific individuals, which should provide reassurance to users who are concerned about data security.

The camera also serves as an energy-saving tool. If the fan detects that you have left the room, it stops oscillating. If the room remains empty for an hour, it switches to a lower-power auto mode while continuing to monitor air quality. While basic motion sensors could handle simple presence detection, Dyson opted for a camera to enable more precise and targeted tracking.

As an air purifier, the Find+Follow Purifier Cool comes equipped with a fully sealed HEPA H13 filter that captures small particles such as pollen and pet dander. It also includes a carbon filter that absorbs 50% more nitrogen dioxide than previous models. Additionally, there is a permanent filter designed to break down formaldehyde. In terms of noise, Dyson claims this model is 50% quieter in sleep mode compared to its maximum setting, making it suitable for use in bedrooms or other quiet spaces.

On the software side, the new purifier supports the Matter smart home standard. This means it can be connected directly to Apple Home, Google Home, or Amazon Alexa without needing to rely solely on Dyson’s own app. This level of compatibility makes it easier for users to integrate the device into their existing smart home ecosystems.

The purifier stands 41.3 inches tall and has a base diameter of 8.6 inches, making it a relatively compact tower fan. It weighs 12 pounds, which keeps its physical footprint standard for similar devices.

In related news, Dyson recently launched the Supersonic Travel Hair Dryer, featuring a compact design and intelligent heat control. The company also introduced its first handheld bladeless fan priced at $99. These releases further demonstrate Dyson’s ongoing efforts to innovate across a range of products.
