AFL legend’s bold insight on Heeney before clash with Daicos

AFL Greats Highlight Isaac Heeney’s Underrated Talent Ahead of Big Match

Richmond Tigers legend Jack Riewoldt has voiced his belief that Isaac Heeney is one of the most complete players in the AFL, yet he still doesn’t receive the recognition he deserves. This comes as Heeney prepares for a high-stakes match against Nick Daicos this Friday. The Swans’ midfielder delivered a standout performance in their recent win over North Melbourne, scoring three goals and recording 24 disposals.

Heeney has been a key figure in the Swans’ success this season, averaging 25.7 disposals per game. His contributions have been crucial in helping the team climb to the top of the ladder. As he faces off against Daicos, the spotlight is on Heeney’s ability to perform under pressure.

Riewoldt believes Heeney is currently the most well-rounded player in the competition. After the victory over North Melbourne, he was asked where Heeney stood among the league’s elite players who consistently deliver for their teams. Riewoldt argued that Heeney could even surpass players like Daicos and Marcus Bontempelli, but he doesn’t get the same level of praise because he plays for a Sydney-based team.

“I think he is the best whole ground player in the comp,” Riewoldt said. “I know that Dean Cox thinks he’s their best forward, I know he thinks he’s their best midfielder. I’ve got no doubt he could play down back if you need him to. At the moment they are using him and Chad Warner forward. I just think this man here, because he’s not in the Melbourne bubble, doesn’t get the credit he deserves. He’s a bona fide superstar.”

Collingwood’s Challenge and the Swans’ Form

Collingwood, currently sitting 10th on the ladder, will be looking to secure a win against the Swans to move up the rankings. Meanwhile, the Swans aim to maintain their position at the top of the table, extending their lead over Fremantle.

Dean Cox, the Swans’ coach, expressed his frustration with the team’s defensive performance in the recent match against North Melbourne. Despite the eight-point victory, Cox felt the defense was inconsistent throughout the game.

“We weren’t able to defend the ground as well as we have,” Cox said. “We allowed that (transition) a little bit too often and gave them some looks. To their credit, they took that opportunity. From a coach’s perspective you understand you’re never going to get perfection in any area of your game, but you’ve got to be as balanced as you possibly can through your defence, your contest work and your attack. I suppose today we fluctuated between those three too often.”

Heeney’s Impact and Future Prospects

Heeney’s versatility and consistency have made him an invaluable asset to the Swans. His ability to contribute across different areas of the field sets him apart from many of his peers. While he may not be in the spotlight as much as players from Melbourne-based teams, his performances speak volumes about his talent and dedication.

As the Swans prepare for their upcoming clash with Collingwood, all eyes will be on Heeney to see if he can continue his impressive form. With Riewoldt’s endorsement and his own proven track record, there’s no doubt that Heeney is a player who deserves more recognition for his contributions to the game.
