Maguire Believes Yoro Can Rise to Greatness

Harry Maguire has expressed his belief that Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven could eventually form a formidable centre-back partnership for Manchester United in the next five to six years. The 20-year-old Yoro and 19-year-old Heaven are two of the most promising talents currently at Old Trafford, with both showing great potential as future stars of the club.

Yoro, who joined Manchester United from Lille in a £52 million deal in 2024, has already made over 60 appearances for the Red Devils. Despite facing some early setbacks, including a broken foot during a pre-season game, he has managed to establish himself in the team. He has been a key part of Ruben Amorim’s back-three and has maintained his place under current boss Michael Carrick. His performances have drawn interest from top European clubs such as Liverpool, Real Madrid, and PSG, but it was Manchester United who secured his signature on a five-year contract.

Heaven, on the other hand, has made 17 appearances for United this season after moving from Arsenal in 2025. The young defender has shown promise and is being closely watched by fans and coaches alike. Ex-Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has spoken highly of both players, particularly highlighting Yoro’s immense talent and potential.

Maguire praised Yoro, stating, “Leny Yoro has all the attributes, the talent, and the potential to have whatever career he wants.” He added, “It’s exceptional to see someone playing centre-back in the Premier League at his age, especially at a club like Manchester United. He’s doing an amazing job, and there is still so much more he can improve on. Hopefully, in 10 or 15 years’ time, we’re sitting here putting his name in that bracket of the all-time greats.”

Turning his attention to Heaven, Maguire said, “I’ve been very impressed with Ayden Heaven since he broke into the team. In five or six years’ time, I believe he and Leny Yoro could be the central defensive partnership for this club. The talent is there; now it’s down to them to keep working hard and pushing. They both have amazing futures ahead of them here.”

Maguire’s own time at Manchester United had been uncertain after he was stripped of the captaincy by Erik ten Hag in 2023. However, he has since enjoyed one of his best seasons at Old Trafford. His contract was set to expire in the summer, but the 33-year-old has agreed to a new one-year deal with the club until June 2027, with the option for an additional year.

Maguire emphasized the importance of leadership within the squad, saying, “Leadership is vital in the dressing room and around the club because you don’t win anything without people who set high standards and help the younger lads feel confident on the pitch. The best teams always have a balance of great leaders and experience within the squad.”

Manchester United had struggled under Amorim’s management but have seen a significant improvement since Michael Carrick took charge as caretaker manager. The team qualified for next season’s Champions League with three games to spare, marking a positive turnaround for the club.

As the future of the club looks brighter, fans are eager to see how Yoro and Heaven will develop. With their talent and determination, they could well become the backbone of Manchester United’s defense in the coming years. For more updates on the club, check our sport page.
