A New Chapter for Robin Singh
Former Indian cricketer Robin Singh has officially concluded his long-standing relationship with the Mumbai Indians. His journey with the franchise began in 2010, and although he was no longer part of the IPL side after 2022, he continued to contribute by working with their sister franchise, MI Emirates, in the ILT20.
Singh played a pivotal role as the head coach of the five-time IPL champions for three seasons, from 2010 until the end of the 2012 campaign. He was eventually succeeded by John Wright. In a recent message on X, Singh shared the news of his departure: “I’d like to share that I have officially parted ways with the Mumbai Indians. Although I have not been part of their IPL staff since 2022, as of this year also with their team in the Emirates league. Thank you to the entire MI family and the fans for the support through this remarkable journey of mine since 2010!!! Wishing the franchise good luck in the years ahead.”
A Career Filled with Achievements
Born in Trinidad, Robin Singh represented India in one Test match and 136 ODIs between 1989 and 2001. During his ODI career, he accumulated 2,336 runs and took 69 wickets with his medium-pace bowling. His only ODI century came against the Sri Lanka national cricket team in 1997, although the match ended in a no-result due to rain.
Singh also recorded two five-wicket hauls in ODIs, including a standout performance against Sri Lanka during the 1999 ODI World Cup. Known for his exceptional fielding skills, he transitioned into coaching after retiring from international cricket. He previously served as the fielding coach of the Indian men’s cricket team.
Global Coaching Experience
Over the years, Robin Singh has taken on coaching roles in various T20 leagues around the world. His experience includes stints in the Caribbean Premier League, Lanka Premier League, Bangladesh Premier League, and Tamil Nadu Premier League. These opportunities allowed him to gain valuable insights into different playing styles and strategies.
In addition to his coaching work, Singh ventured into cricket administration when he was appointed Director of Cricket and head coach of the United Arab Emirates national cricket team in 2020. This role marked a significant step in his career, combining his passion for the game with administrative responsibilities.
