A Rare Outing for Judy Finnigan and Richard Madeley
Judy Finnigan and Richard Madeley, the iconic TV couple, recently made headlines with a rare outing that captured the attention of fans and media alike. The pair were spotted enjoying a swanky lunch at Simpson’s in the Strand in London on Friday, showcasing their enduring relationship as they strolled arm-in-arm after their romantic meal.
The couple, who are set to celebrate 40 years of marriage in November, looked happier than ever. Judy, 78, made a stylish appearance in a pink blazer layered over a matching blouse and dark trousers. She carried the color theme into her accessories, sporting a pale pink handbag and a statement gold necklace. Meanwhile, Richard, 70, was dressed in a smart navy suit, paired with a white shirt and a burnt orange tie. Their fashion choices reflected their classic yet modern style.
A Family Life Full of Love
Judy and Richard are parents to daughter Chloe, 38, and son Jack, 40, as well as Judy’s twin sons Tom and Dan Henshaw from her first marriage. Their family life has always been a source of inspiration for many, with their strong bond evident throughout the years.

A Legacy on Television
The couple hosted This Morning for 13 years, from the show’s launch in October 1988 until July 2001. Their partnership on the show was not only successful but also became a staple of British television. The iconic duo first met back in the 80s while working at ITV Granada Television. At the time, Judy was married to journalist David Henshaw, and Richard was in the midst of separating from his first wife Lynda.
In a 2024 Channel 5 documentary, Judy shared her memories of their first meeting: “I remember you coming into the newsroom on your first day, you were wearing a ridiculous sky blue suit… you just looked like a pr**. I was assigned as your minder, they had a system at Grenada that the newbie would be assigned a father or a mother to show them the ropes literally, and I was your mother.”
Richard added, “I suddenly felt two hands on the back of my neck and I heard this voice saying ‘I’m your mummy’ and I turned around and it was this beautiful blonde. It seemed an off thing to say so I was like ‘what??’ So yeah she was my assigned mummy.”

A Love Story That Started in Blackpool
Their love story took a romantic turn after a working day in Blackpool. Judy and Richard revealed that their first kiss happened in the back of a black cab. “We were filming in Blackpool, we spend a very long day filming promos, we really hit it off. We ended up getting a black cab, because the crew had gone, we went back to Manchester which was a good hours drive. It was in the darkness of the cab that we kind of fell for each other really, and kissed.”
A Lasting Marriage
When asked about the secret to their long-lasting marriage, their daughter Chloe shared insights in a 2024 interview with Closer magazine. “They would honestly say the same thing – that the secret to them having such a long marriage is to not get divorced. They’ve been together for over 40 years and during that time there have been periods where they have really struggled, but they kept going and stayed together. I don’t think it was ever bad enough for them to split.”
Chloe also praised her parents for setting a “pretty gold standard” and noted that she “hit the jackpot” when it came to parents. Despite their successful union, she admitted that she never felt any “pressure” to continue with her own marriage, which ended in 2023, because of her parents’ example.
