Ed Sheeran Backs New Youth Hub in Hometown

Ed Sheeran is set to play a pivotal role in the future of youth development in his hometown of Framlingham, Suffolk. The renowned singer-songwriter has announced plans to fund a new youth centre, which will replace an existing facility that is scheduled to close. This initiative marks a significant step in supporting local youth and ensuring continued access to vital community resources.

The project, provisionally named Fram Fam, will be financed through the Framlingham Foundation Trust charity, which Ed Sheeran has long supported. Additionally, a new charity with the same name, Fram Fam, will be established and personally backed by the artist. A source close to the project revealed that this new charity will be managed by individuals from the local community, including some of Sheeran’s former schoolmates who have extensive experience in community work.

Planning documents for the proposed centre confirm that it will “replace and significantly enhance” the current youth club, which is expected to cease operations this Easter. According to the plans submitted to East Suffolk Council, the new building will serve as a multi-functional facility for children aged 0-18 years, offering a wide range of recreational activities. Without this new centre, there would be no long-term child and youth provision available in Framlingham.

The award-winning musician, who is 35 years old, has become increasingly known for his charitable efforts, including donations to his former school, Thomas Mills High School and Sixth Form, in Framlingham. A source mentioned that the existing youth centre in Framlingham is due to close next month after serving the community for 20 years.

The new youth centre will feature a multi-purpose space, including an art studio, rehearsal areas, a library, a cookery room, and a garden. It will also include a separate gym on the site that will be open to the general public. The centre will place a strong emphasis on the arts, reflecting Ed Sheeran’s passion for creative expression, according to a source.

The planning application, which is for land owned by Framlingham Sports Club, is currently awaiting permission. In a design and access statement, the application highlights the potential community benefits of the project, particularly in addressing the local need for youth facilities. It also states that full funding is in place for the proposed works.

“Subject to a positive determination, works could commence on site in spring or summer 2026,” the statement said. Ed Sheeran, whose extensive catalogue includes hits such as The A Team, Perfect, Sing, and Don’t, has achieved 14 UK number one singles and nine UK number one albums. His latest album, Play, was released last September.
