Warriors Hold Off on Tuivasa-Sheck’s Injury Update

Warriors Face Uncertain Times as Club Legend Suffers Knee Injury

The New Zealand Warriors are bracing for a tense period as one of their most iconic players, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, undergoes scans to assess a knee injury. This comes at a crucial time in his final season with the NRL side, raising concerns about his availability for upcoming matches.

Tuivasa-Sheck was forced off the field during the Warriors’ 30-12 victory over St George Illawarra on Saturday night. The veteran outside back experienced discomfort after a tackle by Hayden Buchanan and was seen wearing a knee brace following the game. Despite this, he expressed optimism about playing in the highly anticipated clash against ladder-leading Penrith next Sunday.

He managed to walk independently to the team bus at Jubilee Stadium, but this does not rule out the possibility of a serious knee injury. The situation is particularly concerning given that Warriors teammate Tanah Boyd recently suffered a season-ending anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture in round 11. If Tuivasa-Sheck’s injury is also an ACL tear, it could mark the end of his NRL career.

Tuivasa-Sheck, who is 32 years old, is set to leave the Warriors at the end of the season to join English side Wakefield Trinity. He remains the only player to have won the Dally M Medal while representing the Warriors, making his potential departure even more significant.

Coach Remains Cautious

After the match, Warriors coach Andrew Webster acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding Tuivasa-Sheck’s injury. He stated that he did not yet know whether the injury was an ACL rupture.

“It’s just funny with those injuries, I wish we had a scan machine at every ground and then we could walk in here and give you guys feedback straight away, and we’d have clarity,” he said. “But until we get that, we’ll just wait and see.”

Webster emphasized the importance of waiting for the results of the scans before making any decisions regarding Tuivasa-Sheck’s availability for the upcoming game against the Panthers.

Potential Replacement

If Tuivasa-Sheck is unable to play, Adam Pompey is expected to step in as his likely replacement for the clash against the Panthers. The coaching staff will need to make quick decisions to ensure the team remains competitive in the coming weeks.

Mixed Performance from the Warriors

Despite the injury concerns, the Warriors showed moments of brilliance in their recent match. Te Maire Martin, Dallin Watene-Zelezniak, and Alofiana Khan-Pereira each scored try-scoring doubles, highlighting the team’s attacking potential. However, the visitors made 15 errors, which affected their overall performance.

Webster provided a balanced assessment of the game, acknowledging both the positives and areas for improvement. He noted that the team experienced significant momentum swings throughout the match.

“Some of our best stuff, and some of our not-so-good stuff,” Webster said. “There were big momentum swings tonight from us, but I thought we were really brave on our tryline for long periods. I thought we were really dominant when we hung on to the ball for long enough, the way we carried, and I think we created opportunities on their tryline that were just off momentum.”
