A Fielding Masterclass That Changed the Game
In a thrilling encounter during the 2026 Indian Premier League, a remarkable fielding effort by Dewald Brevis stole the spotlight in the clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The South African star delivered an extraordinary direct hit that resulted in the run-out of Aiden Markram, the LSG captain and fellow national team member, marking a pivotal moment for CSK in the middle overs.
The incident occurred on the very first ball of the 13th over when Akshat Raghuwanshi attempted a second run after hitting the ball towards the long-on fielder. Brevis, positioned deep in the long-on area, reacted swiftly. He collected the ball with precision and launched a powerful throw from approximately 30 metres away toward the stumps. The ball struck the wicket perfectly as Markram tried to complete the second run.
Markram, who was short of his crease, had to return to the pavilion with a modest score of 6 runs off 7 balls. This dismissal placed LSG in a difficult position, further complicating their chase.
A Moment That Shifted Momentum
Brevis’ direct hit proved to be the defining moment of the match. After a strong start by LSG, where they reached 91 runs in the first 6 overs thanks to Josh Inglis’ explosive batting, CSK managed to regain control through a combination of excellent bowling and sharp fielding.
Brevis’ incredible run-out energized the CSK team, igniting the Chepauk stadium with excitement. Such moments are often decisive in T20 cricket, especially when a team is trying to make a comeback.
Inglis’ Heroics and CSK’s Resilience
Earlier in the innings, Josh Inglis delivered what many consider one of the standout performances of IPL 2026. He scored an impressive 85 off just 33 balls, hitting 10 fours and six sixes. His dominant performance guided LSG to 91 for the loss of one wicket after the first six overs.
However, CSK bounced back strongly, with Jamie Overton taking three wickets, while Noor Ahmad and Anshul Kamboj each claimed a wicket. Despite the initial onslaught, the CSK bowlers managed to restrict the run flow in the middle overs.
Shahbaz Ahmad and Himmat Singh provided a crucial partnership, adding 50 runs off 32 balls to help LSG reach 203/8 after 20 overs. Although Inglis’ innings was exceptional, CSK’s bowlers and fielders made a strong comeback in the latter half of the innings, with Brevis’ run-out standing out as a highlight of their overall performance.
