Martin Zubimendi Back to Form After Arsenal Drop

Martin Zubimendi’s Journey Back to the Starting XI

Martin Zubimendi is hopeful that his contributions this season will help him regain a place in the Arsenal starting XI for the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain. The Spanish international, who previously played for Real Sociedad, has been a consistent presence in Mikel Arteta’s team for most of the season. However, the demanding nature of a long and grueling campaign has taken its toll on his performance.

After a dip in form, Zubimendi was temporarily dropped from the starting lineup for the Premier League match against Fulham, with Myles Lewis-Skelly stepping in as his replacement. This decision was not an isolated incident, as Zubimendi also found himself on the bench during games against West Ham and Burnley. Although he came off the bench in the first half against West Ham, he was later replaced after 40 minutes.

Zubimendi was also among the substitutes as Arsenal secured their spot in the Champions League final. Lewis-Skelly was given the starting role in the semi-final second leg against Atletico Madrid, further highlighting the competition within the squad.

Despite these challenges, Zubimendi made a return to the starting lineup for the final game of the season against Crystal Palace. He played the full 90 minutes, starting at right-back. However, the team that faced Crystal Palace was significantly changed, with many players expected to start against PSG being rested.

A Consistent Performance Throughout the Season

Before the Fulham match, Zubimendi had started every single Premier League match this season, playing the full 90 minutes in 22 of those 34 games. His consistency on the field has been a key factor in Arsenal’s success this season.

Speaking ahead of the Champions League final in Budapest, Zubimendi acknowledged that the long season has affected his performances. However, he emphasized that being out of the team for a while has allowed him to “return to normal.”

When asked if he sees himself in the starting XI against PSG, Zubimendi told Marca: “I always see myself playing, but what actually happens is another matter.” He admitted that he hasn’t been getting much playing time recently but is ready to go out and play. Zubimendi also highlighted that his overall performance in the Premier League has been very good, and he is not dwelling on the benchings.

A Demanding Season and a Return to Form

Zubimendi added: “It’s been a very demanding, long season, in which I’ve made efforts I haven’t made in my career, and that’s surely taken its toll. But I think I’m back to normal now.”

Arsenal are in their first Champions League final since 2006, aiming to win the trophy for the first time and secure a memorable double. The team is looking to capitalize on their strong performance throughout the season, with Zubimendi hoping to play a crucial role in the final.

As the final approaches, all eyes will be on Zubimendi and his ability to bounce back from a challenging season. With his experience and determination, he is determined to prove that he is still a vital part of Arsenal’s plans.
