New Software Update Enhances Off-Road and Towing Capabilities for Denza B5 and B8
Denza has introduced a significant over-the-air (OTA) software update for its B5 and B8 four-wheel-drive models, bringing advanced off-road technology inspired by the BYD Shark 6 Performance. This update aims to improve the vehicles’ performance in challenging terrain, towing capabilities, and overall cabin comfort.
Enhanced Off-Road Features
The latest software version, 1.1.0, introduces revised traction-control “management algorithms” designed to better coordinate wheel speed and motor torque. These improvements are based on the firmware used in the BYD Shark 6 Performance, which is known for its ability to tackle demanding off-road conditions such as the Beer O’Clock Hill climb in Queensland.
The update also adds a Crawl mode to the B5 and B8, featuring sub-settings for Climbing and Tug of War, similar to the BYD Shark 6 Performance. This mode allows for more precise control of wheel speed at low speeds, enhancing the vehicle’s capability on rough terrain. The ‘Rage’ mode has been removed, streamlining the off-road experience.

Improved Towing Functions
For the B5 model, new features include cruise control that works with a trailer attached, a dedicated shortcut to access towing mode, and the ability to input the trailer’s weight. This helps the car adjust performance parameters to improve stability while towing.
The B8 model now supports cruise control while in towing mode, along with “dynamic range estimation” for a more accurate readout of petrol and electric range. These updates make towing more efficient and safer for drivers.
Enhanced Cabin Comfort and Safety
Inside the B8, the second- and third-row seats have been improved to offer better anti-jam resistance, preventing them from folding if resistance is detected during the folding process. This update follows a fatal incident involving power-folding third-row seats in a Hyundai Palisade in the US, highlighting the importance of safety enhancements.

Additional improvements include a head-up display that shows when the indicators are active, ensuring drivers are always aware of their surroundings. A password lock feature has also been added to the touchscreen, providing an extra layer of security for the vehicle’s infotainment system.
Customer Feedback Drives Innovation
Denza’s chief operating officer, Mark Harland, emphasized the company’s commitment to listening to customer feedback. He stated, “We are listening to customer feedback, not only through our local engineering team but also through real-world experiences shared by owners driving on Australian roads and tracks.”
The OTA software update is now available for download by current Denza B5 and B8 owners via the internet. This update marks a significant step forward in enhancing the driving experience for Denza customers, combining cutting-edge technology with practical improvements.
