A Historic Run Chase
In a remarkable display of skill and determination, Alice Capsey inspired England to achieve the highest successful run chase in women’s T20 history on these shores. This achievement was pivotal in securing a series victory over India in Taunton.
Capsey’s performance was nothing short of spectacular, as she scored 82 runs off 42 balls. Her innings featured nine fours and three sixes, showcasing her ability to dominate the Indian attack. She was supported by Heather Knight, who played a crucial role in the partnership that ultimately led England to a six-wicket victory with nine balls remaining in the match.
Despite losing their first three wickets for just 38 runs, England found a way to bounce back thanks to Knight’s outstanding 70 runs off 42 balls. The pair’s 137-run partnership was instrumental in rescuing England from a difficult position.

Strong Performance from the Indian Side
India set a challenging target of 180 runs, which they achieved through a combination of solid batting and strategic play. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur led the charge with an impressive 56 runs from 40 balls, including seven fours. Yastika Bhatia, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Deepti Sharma also contributed significantly, with Bhatia playing a key role in the middle order’s recovery after the early losses.
Linsey Smith and Charlie Dean were effective in removing India’s openers, but the middle order showed resilience and composure. The innings ended with a missed opportunity for Sophie Ecclestone, who failed to complete a simple run-out of Richa Ghosh.
Lauren Bell was the standout bowler for England, finishing with figures of two for 36. Earlier in the innings, Ecclestone had run out Bhatia, highlighting the intensity of the match.
England’s Resilience
England faced one of the second-highest T20 run chases in their history. They were a wicket down in the second over when Danni Wyatt-Hodge was bowled by Kranti Gaud. Sophia Dunkley and Amy Jones also fell cheaply, but Capsey’s aggressive batting provided the much-needed momentum.
Capsey and Knight formed a formidable partnership, smashing 19 fours between them and contributing to a total of 22 boundaries. This performance not only secured the win but also served as a confidence booster for England as they prepare for their World Cup opener against Sri Lanka on June 12.
