While an NFL media outlet attempted to circulate the serious health scare gymnastics icon Simone Biles recently suffered, fans on social media voiced their displeasure with a particular moniker.
In an article written by Gridiron’s McQuade Arnold on June 7, the writer referred to the Olympic champion as “NFL Wife.” And in a recent video by Sportsish, the announcer broke down the issues with Arnold’s choice of words.
“NFL wife Simone Biles? That’s the title we’re rolling with?” she stated. “You saw everything Simone Biles has accomplished in her life, and you said, ‘We should identify her as an NFL wife’… Personally, that’s just bad journalism, okay? … Could have just said the most decorated gymnast in history.”
Biles, who has revolutionized the sport and won 11 Olympic and 30 World Championship medals, could undoubtedly be referred to by her achievements or simply her GOAT status. In fact, she won the Presidential Medal of Freedom, too.
Hence, calling her just an “NFL wife” based on Jonathan Owens’ athletic background came off like a disrespect to many fans, who also showed concern over the health issue the gymnast faced last week.
Fans Disagreed With the “NFL Wife” Term
The name Simone Biles itself is a part of gymnastics history and beyond. She has broken records, championed mental health on global platforms, and the sport has five different moves named after her. So, fans claimed that Biles doesn’t even need a moniker; the name itself is a class act.

“Literally could have just said Simone Biles and we would all know exactly who they were talking about,” wrote one. Another added, “She doesn’t even need an intro. Simone Biles, that’s all, and has my attention! BECAUSE SHE’S THE GOAT.”
However, most fans delved into comparisons, claiming that they did not even know she was married to an NFL player. It is because Biles surpasses Owens in terms of accomplishments in their respective sports.
“You know what’s really funny is I had no idea she was an NFL wife,” wrote one. Another added, “I don’t even know who she is married to, but I certainly know who Simone Biles is in her own right.” One added, “She is so much more accomplished and famous than her husband. She’s in history books.”
But moving past these, some fans showed concern over Biles’ health, given that the gymnast admitted it was a near-death experience without disclosing the details.
“All facts you hit, but IS SHE OKAY?!” one commented. Another said, “I have no idea who NFL wife Simone Biles is. But say the GOAT OLYMPIC GOLD MEDAL WINNER? I’m sat and invested because what do you mean Mrs Biles almost died?! Is Simone ok?”
Amidst thousands of comments, the fans joined forces over one fact, that Simone Biles’ stardom goes beyond whatever McQuade Arnold wrote it to be.
