Tammy Hembrow forced off Shark! after shocking health crisis

A Journey of Fear and Resilience

The reality series Shark! has captivated audiences with its high-stakes challenges, pushing Australian celebrities to confront their fears through dangerous shark encounters. The six-part program saw six stars face increasingly perilous situations, but the finale brought unexpected twists that left some contestants unable to complete the final challenge.

By the time the show reached its climax, only half of the cast managed to finish the ultimate test: a dive with tiger sharks at a location known for several fatal attacks. This was not without its hurdles, as two prominent contestants had to step back due to health concerns.

Health Concerns Force Contestants to Withdraw

Olympic swimmer Ariarne Titmus was the first to opt out of the final episode earlier in the season, but the drama continued when influencer Tammy Hembrow was ruled out of the climactic dive. Hembrow had been experiencing pain and numbness in her hand, which initially led others to suspect a pinched nerve. However, the show’s medical team raised concerns that her symptoms could be linked to decompression sickness, a serious condition associated with diving.

‘It’s a possible dive-related injury where the gases haven’t properly been released from your body,’ a medic explained on the show. Doctors placed Hembrow on oxygen treatment and advised against her returning to the water for the final challenge. Executive producer Chloe Baker later reassured a devastated Hembrow that the decision was made solely for her safety.

‘If we put you out on that boat tomorrow and something goes wrong, we’re two hours away from shore,’ Baker said. An emotional Hembrow was seen in tears as medics prepared her oxygen equipment. ‘To think that I am not going to be able to finish what I came here to do is heartbreaking,’ she said.

Former Home and Away actress Lynne McGranger also skipped the final expedition, choosing to stay on shore to support Hembrow.

Final Challenge Completed by Three Contestants

In the end, only Scott Cam, Matt Nable, and Sam Thaiday completed the show’s final shark dive challenge. Their bravery highlighted the intense nature of the competition and the risks involved.

Personal Struggles and New Beginnings

The final episode also touched on personal issues, as Tammy reflected on her relationship breakdown with Love Island Australia star Matt Zukowski. During Sunday night’s episode, the Queensland-based influencer struggled to maintain her composure as she discussed the ordeal in front of her castmates.

‘It was a very public marriage, and then it was a very public divorce, over a very short time span, which sort of just adds to the humiliation I guess,’ she said. Tammy went on to admit she has been ‘trying to find herself again.’

Tammy and Matt married in November 2024, and announced their split in June 2025 after just seven months of marriage. Shortly after, Tammy was spotted canoodling with AFL star Bailey Smith, and is now in a relationship with 23-year-old toyboy beau Grayson Te Moana.
