Marvel Studios is assembling a stellar creative team for its upcoming Phase Six project, VisionQuest, a spin-off series stemming from the acclaimed 2021 miniseries WandaVision. The new show will see Paul Bettany reprise his role as the titular superhero, White Vision, a complex character with a rich history within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Adding to the anticipation, the studio has brought on board composer Mick Giacchino, a talent with a diverse background that includes significant contributions to both the Star Wars and DC universes.
Mick Giacchino Tapped as Composer for VisionQuest
Mick Giacchino has officially joined the VisionQuest production as its composer, as reported by industry sources. His impressive resume boasts a variety of high-profile projects, including the 2021 animated feature Extinct, the gritty DC crime drama series The Penguin, and the recent Star Wars series Skeleton Crew. Giacchino’s work on The Penguin earned him a prestigious Creative Arts Emmy in 2025, a testament to his skill and innovative approach to scoring.
Interestingly, Mick Giacchino is the son of the legendary composer Michael Giacchino, a frequent collaborator with Marvel Studios and other major film franchises. The younger Giacchino has also contributed to his father’s work, providing additional music for the score of Matt Reeves’ 2022 blockbuster, The Batman. This familial connection and shared passion for music undoubtedly contribute to Mick’s unique compositional voice.
Fans will have an early opportunity to experience Giacchino’s contributions to VisionQuest. He is slated to perform the series’ main theme with a full orchestra at Poland’s FMF International TV Series Gala in Kraków on May 16. During this event, he will also present selections from his acclaimed score for The Penguin, offering a glimpse into his versatility.
VisionQuest: A Thematic Trilogy Unfolds
VisionQuest is positioned as the third installment in a thematic television trilogy within the MCU, following the groundbreaking success of WandaVision and the upcoming Agatha All Along. While not a direct sequel in the traditional sense, Paul Bettany himself confirmed in a September 2025 interview that VisionQuest is an integral part of this narrative arc. He described it as “absolutely, rightly part of the trilogy,” emphasizing its thematic and character-driven connections to its predecessors.
The series is helmed by creator Terry Matalas, known for his work on Star Trek: Picard. The official logline for VisionQuest sets a compelling stage: “After the events of WandaVision, White Vision struggles to connect with the memories given to him as he lacks the emotions or feelings associated with them.” This premise suggests a deep dive into the character’s identity crisis and his quest for understanding and integration.
An Expansive and Familiar Cast Assembled
Beyond Paul Bettany’s central performance as White Vision, the VisionQuest cast features a remarkable ensemble of actors, many of whom have prior connections to the MCU or other significant genre projects:
- James Spader returns as the menacing AI villain, Ultron.
- Todd Stashwick joins the cast as Paladin.
- Ruaridh Mollica takes on the role of Tommy Maximoff, suggesting a connection to the Scarlet Witch’s children.
- T’Nia Miller portrays Jocasta, another AI character with a history in the comics.
- Emily Hampshire is set to appear as E.D.I.T.H., an AI system previously associated with Iron Man.
- James D’Arcy reprises his role as the loyal AI assistant, J.A.R.V.I.S.
- Jonathan Sayer will play U.
- Henry Lewis is cast as D.U.M.-E, one of Tony Stark’s robotic assistants.
- Orla Brady steps into the role of F.R.I.D.A.Y., Tony Stark’s later AI assistant.
- Faran Tahir is confirmed to play Raza.
This blend of returning characters and new faces, coupled with the deep exploration of AI and artificial consciousness hinted at in the logline, promises a rich and thought-provoking addition to the MCU.
VisionQuest is slated to premiere on Disney+ in late 2026, with a total of eight episodes planned. The series is poised to expand the narrative landscape of the MCU, delving into the complexities of artificial intelligence, memory, and identity through the eyes of one of its most intriguing characters.
