Rob Brydon’s Back: Bill’s Included Comedy Comeback

Rob Brydon Trades Uncle Bryn’s Cardigan for Landlord’s Apron in New BBC Sitcom

Fans of Welsh comedian and actor Rob Brydon have reason to celebrate, as the beloved star is set to make a significant return to the world of television sitcoms. Brydon, 60, is stepping into the lead role of Bill Beam in the brand-new BBC comedy, Bill’s Included. Known and adored for his iconic portrayal of the endearingly awkward Uncle Bryn West in Gavin and Stacey, Brydon is now poised to charm audiences with a different, yet equally memorable, character.

Brydon’s latest venture sees him embodying Bill Beam, a well-meaning but perhaps overly enthusiastic landlord. Bill is a divorcé who’s found a way to keep his head above water by renting out his spare rooms to a group of students. The premise of Bill’s Included centres on Bill’s often-futile attempts to navigate the delicate balance between being a responsible property owner and an honorary housemate. As is often the case with such chaotic living arrangements, Bill and his unlikely lodgers are set to experience a whirlwind of chaos, personal growth, and the blossoming of unexpected friendships.

Filming for Bill’s Included is currently underway, with an official release date yet to be announced by the BBC. The ensemble cast promises a wealth of comedic talent. Joining Brydon are Samantha Spiro and Nigel Lindsay, who will play Bill’s neighbours, Siobhan and Martin, respectively. Kevin Eldon is also on board as Drew, a record shop owner. The student contingent is brought to life by Dylan Brady, Ada Player, Harry Baxendale, and Yasmin Al-Khudhairi, portraying characters named Christian, Hettie, James, and Zahra.

A synopsis for Bill’s Included offers a tantalising glimpse into the domestic dynamics:

The students, meanwhile, aren’t exactly living the dream: a 90-minute commute to campus, a strict bin rota, and a man in his 50s who insists on a group vote before ordering a takeaway.
Still, the rent’s insanely cheap (please don’t tell Bill), and somehow, through all the awkwardness, this chaotic household starts to gel.
As Bill and his mismatched lodgers navigate heartbreak, reinvention, and emotional upheaval, surprising parallels emerge between university life and mid-life crisis.
Can they overcome their differences, embrace their found family, and help each other muddle along?
Can Bill learn to be both landlord and land… friend? Probably not, because he’ll get too excited and screw everything up, but let’s see.

Rob Brydon himself has expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “I feel very lucky to be part of Bill’s Included. Alex Owen and Ben Ashenden have written some truly wonderful scripts and I can’t wait to help bring them to life.”

Rupert Majendie, Executive Producer at Baby Cow Productions, echoed Brydon’s excitement, highlighting the show’s appeal. ” Bill’s Included is exactly the kind of show we love making at Baby Cow. Big, character-driven comedy with real emotional truth at its core. It’s full of brilliantly funny performances, led by the incomparable Rob Brydon. We are so excited for everyone to meet Bill.” The executive production team is a formidable line-up, including Rob Brydon, Alex Owen, Ben Ashenden, Rupert Majendie, and the renowned Steve Coogan.

Beyond his extensive acting career, Rob Brydon is a familiar face to many as the long-standing presenter of the popular BBC panel show Would I Lie To You?, a role he has held since 2009. He took over from the original host, Angus Deayton, who helmed the show’s initial two series.

In recent years, Brydon has expanded his television presenting portfolio. Last year, he fronted the intriguing BBC game show Destination X. In this series, contestants were taken on a global adventure via unmarked coaches and helicopters, tasked with deciphering their location through a series of challenges. Each episode featured a tense map room segment where players would guess their whereabouts, often leading to dramatic eliminations and strategic second-guessing. Earlier this year, Brydon also presented The Floor, a high-stakes Sunday night game show on ITV.

With Bill’s Included, Rob Brydon is set to bring his unique blend of humour and warmth to a new generation of viewers, proving that Uncle Bryn’s charm is just one facet of his considerable comedic talent.
