An act of vigilante justice has once again occurred in Simeulue Regency. A house belonging to a resident in Tanjung Raya Village, Teluk Dalam District, was burned down by a group of locals on the eve of Eid al-Fitr (takbiran night), Saturday (March 22, 2026). The incident was reportedly triggered by accusations of black magic directed at the homeowner.
Without going through any legal process, seven residents carried out the arson, leaving the house owned by Ralimasiah severely damaged.
Tanjung Raya Village Head Hasmin confirmed the incident, stating that the case has been handed over to law enforcement authorities.
“It is true that Ralimasiah’s house was burned by seven residents. Preliminary allegations suggest the victim was accused of practicing black magic. The case is now being handled by the police,” Hasmin told reporters on Wednesday (March 25, 2026).
Teluk Dalam Subdistrict Head Andrik also confirmed that both the victim and the perpetrators are residents of the same village. He expressed regret over the incident, saying it disrupted public order.
“Both the victim and the perpetrators are residents of Tanjung Raya Village. We deeply regret this incident,” he said.
To prevent further conflict, the victim, Ralimasiah, has been secured by officers from the Simeulue Police.
The Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Simeulue Police, through Public Relations officer Bintoro, confirmed the incident and stated that the case is still under investigation.
“Yes, the incident did occur and is currently being handled,” he said briefly.
