A recent hotel incident in São Paulo, Brazil, has sparked a social media storm, initially pointing fingers at pop sensation Chappell Roan. However, it has emerged that the celebrity at the centre of the controversy was, in fact, American singer Sabrina Carpenter. The misunderstanding involved Ada, the 11-year-old daughter of actor Jude Law, her mother Catherine Cavelli, and Jorginho, the Arsenal star who is Cavelli’s stepdad.
The family was staying at the same hotel as both Chappell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter, who were in the city to perform at the Lollapalooza festival that weekend. According to reports, Ada had casually walked past Chappell Roan’s table in the hotel. Moments later, a security guard approached the family, accusing them of harassing the singer.
The encounter left Jorginho and Catherine Cavelli stunned and angered. Both took to social media separately to share their side of the story, vehemently denying that their daughter had made any contact with Chappell Roan. They expressed confusion and frustration at the aggressive behaviour of the singer’s security, particularly his threat to report them to hotel management.
Upon seeing the posts from Ada’s parents, Chappell Roan herself responded over the weekend, asserting that the security guard in question was not part of her entourage and that no one had approached her at the hotel. This statement further fuelled the public’s curiosity and speculation.
The Bodyguard Breaks His Silence
The man at the heart of the confusion, Pascal Duvier, a security professional with a notable history of working with high-profile celebrities, has now broken his silence to clarify the situation. Duvier took to social media this week to present his account of the events.
In a candid statement, Duvier made no excuses for his actions. He stated, “I take full responsibility for the interactions on March 21st. I was at the hotel on behalf of another individual, (Sabrina Carpenter), and I was not part of the personal security team of Chappell Roan.” He explained that his decision to approach Ada’s family was based on information he had received from the hotel, coupled with events he had witnessed in the preceding days and a general heightened security risk in their location.
While Duvier did not explicitly name the star he was protecting at the time of the initial report, eagle-eyed photographers had captured images of him providing security for Sabrina Carpenter on the Friday night prior to the incident, in the vicinity of the hotel.
A Regrettable Misunderstanding
Concluding his statement, Duvier expressed regret for the outcome of the encounter. He emphasised that his sole interaction with Catherine Cavelli was conducted calmly and with good intentions, but acknowledged that the result was regrettable.
