Bafta TV Awards 2026: “Adolescence” Dominates Nominations as “Strictly” is Snubbed
The nominations for the 2026 Bafta Television Awards have been unveiled, revealing a strong showing for the critically acclaimed Netflix series “Adolescence,” which has secured a remarkable 11 nominations. In stark contrast, the popular ballroom dancing show “Strictly Come Dancing” has been entirely overlooked, failing to receive any nods.
This year’s awards, presented by P&O Cruises, see “Adolescence” leading the pack, a testament to its powerful exploration of the manosphere’s damaging effects. The series, which has enjoyed a successful awards season, is recognised across numerous categories, including a Leading Actor nomination for Stephen Graham and Supporting Actor nods for Ashley Walters, Owen Cooper, and Erin Doherty.
Other programmes making a significant impact on the nomination list include Disney’s “A Thousand Blows,” Channel 4’s “Trespasses,” and the Star Wars spin-off “Andor.” These shows have earned recognition in both performance and craft categories.
The prestigious ceremony, scheduled for May, will see a change in hosting duties. Greg Davies will take the reins for the main show, stepping in for Alan Cumming, while Maisie Adam will host the craft awards.
Jane Millichip, CEO of Bafta, expressed her enthusiasm for the nominated programmes, stating, “2025 has been an exceptional year for television, reflected in 124 nominated programmes that highlight the strength and originality of British storytelling.” She further commented on the diverse range of content, from “powerful documentaries and standout comedy to homegrown drama and the international series that captured global attention,” underscoring the medium’s creative peak. Millichip also highlighted the excitement surrounding the numerous first-time performance nominees, signalling the emergence of new talent shaping the industry’s future.
Public Vote Open for Memorable Moment Award
The fan-favourite P&O Cruises Memorable Moment Award is back, allowing the public to cast their votes. This year’s nominees include standout scenes from “Adolescence,” “Big Boys,” “What It Feels Like For a Girl,” and “Blue Lights.” The public vote is open until April 22. Also in contention are Alan Carr’s winning moment from “Celebrity Traitors” and the memorable face-off between Bob Mortimer and Richard Ayoade in the first season of “Last One Laughing.”
Notable Snubs and Surprises
While many shows have been recognised, there have been some notable omissions. The long-running espionage hit “Slow Horses” and the recent rom-com “Too Much” failed to secure any nominations. The complete shutout of “Strictly Come Dancing” comes at a time of significant upheaval for the show, which is currently undergoing a major shake-up of its professional dancer line-up. This restructuring has been reportedly linked to dancers’ engagement on TikTok and follows the recent departures of long-time hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman.
Meanwhile, Richard Osman’s “House of Games” has received a nomination for a daytime Bafta, shortly after Osman announced his departure from the show, with Michael Sheen set to take over hosting duties.

Broadcaster Dominance and Eligibility
The BBC has emerged as the dominant broadcaster, securing the most nominations with a total of 52. Channel 4 follows with 14 nominations, and Sky with 13.
The continued eligibility of “Adolescence” for the Bafta Television Awards, despite its release last year, is due to the awards’ eligibility window, which covers television broadcasts between January 1 and December 31.
Aimee Lou Wood is having a particularly strong year, with nominations in both the Leading Actress and Supporting Actress categories for her work in “Film Club” and “The White Lotus,” respectively. The awards also recognise 21 new performance nominees, including Amanda Holden and Bob Mortimer.
The BAFTA Television Awards with P&O Cruises will be broadcast live on BBC One and available on BBC iPlayer on Sunday, May 10.
