Patricia Arquette: “We Warn Each Other” to Stay Competitive

Hollywood Royalty: The Enduring Arquette Acting Dynasty

Patricia Arquette, a name synonymous with compelling performances and a career spanning decades, is more than just a celebrated actress. She hails from a true Hollywood dynasty, a family where the spotlight has been a consistent presence across multiple generations. With her recent return to her horror roots in the upcoming film They Will Kill You, Arquette, now 57, reflects on her family’s unique place in the entertainment industry and the lack of sibling rivalry at the box office.

Born into a family deeply entrenched in acting, Patricia is the daughter of Lewis Arquette, a respected actor himself. Her siblings, Rosanna (66), Richmond (62), and David (54), have all carved out successful careers in Hollywood. Sadly, their sister Alexis, who also pursued acting, passed away in 2016. This rich lineage continues, with Patricia’s own daughter, Harlow Jane, now embarking on her acting journey, and her niece, Zoë Bleu Sidel (daughter of Rosanna Arquette), featuring in the new Dracula production. This makes them a fifth-generation acting family, a rarity in the industry.

“No, we don’t, we don’t,” Patricia states emphatically when asked about any competitive spirit among the siblings regarding box office success. “We’re fourth generation actors, and now my daughter’s acting, and my niece is acting… so it’s kind of our jobs.” She explains that while they don’t compete, they do offer each other support and guidance. “Sometimes we’ll talk to each other about struggles that we’re having, or we’ll give each other suggestions of certain things, or we’ll warn each other about certain people, but that’s kind of it.” This familial camaraderie extends beyond just professional advice, highlighting a strong bond forged through shared experiences in the demanding world of acting.

The Arquette family’s influence isn’t confined to their immediate circle. Patricia herself is a recipient of prestigious accolades, including an Oscar and Golden Globe awards, and is recently recognised for her Emmy-nominated role in the hit TV drama Severance. Her professional connections are vast, even leading to new collaborations with former family members. She is currently working on a project titled Evil Genius with Courteney Cox, her ex-sister-in-law.

The star power of Patricia Arquette is undeniable, and it was a sentiment echoed by her co-stars in They Will Kill You. The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Heather Graham, Tom Felton, and Zazie Beetz. For many of them, working alongside Arquette was a dream come true.

Heather Graham, for instance, admitted to feeling a sense of disbelief. “I’m obsessed with Patricia, so I was a little nerdy fan,” she confessed. “Her career, everything she’s done and then I mean, the way she’s transformed herself into all these different roles… I was a nerdy fan, that was pretty embarrassing. Luckily, she was nice to me [and] we hung out, but I was ‘ahhh’.” This “nerdy fan” reaction underscores the immense respect and admiration Arquette commands within the industry.

The film’s director, Kirill Sokolov, shared a similar experience, finding himself directing his childhood crush. “It’s my first Hollywood movie, and I saw all these people through my entire life being just a movie fan, and now I suddenly found myself on a set as a colleague, working with them, and of course, I was melting with Patricia,” he admitted with a laugh. He recounted the challenge of maintaining professional composure when faced with an actress who had been a significant crush since his youth, particularly after seeing her in iconic roles like True Romance. “Specifically, it was so hard because she’s like – I think when boys and kids saw True Romance, Patricia immediately becomes their crush, and she was my crush when I was a kid. So it was like, ‘no, we are colleagues. Now, keep calm, just work, work’ but it was very exciting. It just pure joy and happiness.”

The admiration wasn’t limited to Arquette. Zazie Beetz also had her moment of fan-girling on set. According to Graham, Beetz confided in Tom Felton about having a childhood crush on him, much to Felton’s delighted surprise. Myha’la Herbin, another cast member, also expressed her awe at meeting Felton, having grown up with the Harry Potter films. “The day I met Tom Felton as well, I was like [mimics mouth open and gawping], because I grew up on Harry Potter, it’s really cool,” she said.

The release of They Will Kill You marks another chapter in the ongoing legacy of the Arquette family, a testament to their enduring presence and talent in Hollywood. The film is now showing in cinemas across Australia.
