Toy Removed Immediately from Easter Showbags

Safety Checks on Showbags at Sydney Royal Easter Show

For parents heading to the Sydney Royal Easter Show, the request for eye-catching showbags from their children is almost guaranteed. As the annual event approaches, safety authorities have shared what will and will not be included in these popular keepsakes.

NSW Fair Trading inspectors have conducted thorough safety checks on over 400 showbags ahead of the event. Their findings reveal that not all items in the bags are suitable for the public.

One particular toy, marketed for children under three, was removed after being deemed a choking hazard. The item contained small parts that could detach easily, posing a risk to young children. The offending toy, which was a purple, squishy alien-like head with tentacles and pompoms, was taken out of the bags after the trader agreed to the removal.

In addition to the toy issue, inspectors found four cosmetic products that were not properly labelled. These products lacked necessary ingredient information. However, traders were allowed to keep the items after making the required corrections to the labels.

“Year after year, showbags bring joy to kids and nostalgia to adults,” said Natasha Mann, NSW Fair Trading Commissioner. “We’re pleased to see exhibitors largely taking safety seriously and working closely with our inspectors to resolve issues before showbags reach the public. Our inspectors will be maintaining a strong presence throughout the show to ensure every product sold meets mandatory safety and information requirements.”

The Sydney Royal Easter Show is set to run at Sydney Olympic Park until Monday, April 13. It is anticipated that the event will attract over 800,000 visitors across 12 days. Parents and families are encouraged to enjoy the festivities while keeping an eye on the safety of the items purchased.
