Former AFL Star’s Controversial Exit from Moama Football Club
A former St Kilda and Essendon star, Jake Carlisle, has found himself at the center of a major controversy after being sacked from a local footy club in Victoria following an incident that has left many stunned. The 34-year-old, who was recently appointed as a player-coach for Moama, has now left the club in disgrace after being caught on camera punching one of his own teammates.
Carlisle was announced as a player-coach of Moama back in October, but his tenure lasted just one game before the incident occurred. The shocking event took place during Moama’s season-opening clash against Echuca United in the Murray Football League on Good Friday. The footage of the incident has since been widely shared online, sparking outrage among fans and players alike.

According to independent sports reporter Matt Jackson, who shared the video on his social media platforms, the incident was described as a “disgrace.” He remarked:
“That’s Jake Carlisle… and this was their first game (Moama) with him being a player and co-coach. He’s decided to smack his own teammate in the face. What’s he doing? This is a disgrace. Even the other teammates, they’re like, ‘What are you doing, mate?’ Echuca United players, they are in disbelief.”
The incident has raised serious questions about Carlisle’s conduct and his suitability for a leadership role within the team. It appears that this was not the first time Carlisle had clashed with his teammates during his short time with Moama. There have been reports of previous disagreements, which may have contributed to the club’s decision to part ways with him.
Moama club president Scott Slater provided a brief statement regarding Carlisle’s departure, saying, “Official line is that he has moved back to Melbourne, hence why he has been cleared. Nothing more to add, sorry.”
Despite the controversy, Carlisle has reportedly been cleared to return to his former club Wallan, who compete in the Riddell District Football League. His career in the Australian Football League (AFL) spanned 151 games, and he was known for his hard-nosed style of play. However, his career was marred by controversy, including being one of the 34 players banned for the 2016 season due to the infamous Essendon supplements scandal. That year marked his first season at St Kilda, where his career eventually came to an end in 2021.
As of now, Carlisle has not publicly commented on the incident. Fans and critics alike are waiting for further statements or explanations from the former AFL star, who once commanded respect on the field but now finds himself under intense scrutiny off it.
The situation highlights the challenges that former professional athletes can face when transitioning into coaching roles, particularly when their personal conduct comes into question. For Moama, the incident serves as a cautionary tale about the importance of leadership and discipline within the sport.
