Fans of The White Lotus can finally breathe a sigh of relief, as there is now official confirmation that season four is officially in production. This news comes after several months of anticipation, during which HBO shared key details about the upcoming season, which is expected to release around one year from now. The setting will be the luxurious Côte d’Azur in France, with the action taking place over one week during the Cannes Film Festival.
The cast for the new season has also been revealed, featuring an all-star lineup that includes Helena Bonham Carter, Vincent Cassel, Steve Coogan, Caleb Jonte Edwards, Dylan Ennis, and Corentin Fila. This diverse group of actors is set to bring the next chapter of the series to life, continuing the show’s tradition of blending dark humor with social commentary.
This will be the first time that the show’s long-standing partnership with The Four Seasons hotel chain has come to an end. However, the guests of season four will still experience luxury at the historic Château de la Messardière, where accommodations can cost up to €20,900 per night ($24,247). The location promises to be just as opulent and visually stunning as previous seasons, offering a backdrop that is both elegant and immersive.
Production has already begun, and a behind-the-scenes clip has been released, giving fans a glimpse into the filming process. In the video, the gates to the 18th-century chateau open, revealing a long road lined with pristine topiary and the sparkling ocean below. The footage also shows the crew at work, with slates clapping and cameras rolling around the set.
While many fans are excited about the visual elements, there is one detail that has sparked intense discussion: the opening credits. The White Lotus’ opening credits have become a cultural phenomenon over its previous three seasons. However, this was not always the case. For season three, which was set in Thailand, the iconic theme song by Cristobal Tapia de Veer was changed. This decision led to a rift between the composer and the show’s creator, Mike White, and ultimately resulted in Tapia leaving the franchise.
Mike White wanted to shift the tone of the theme song, making it more of a club track. Tapia, however, preferred to maintain the vibe of the original two seasons. He even suggested that the longer version of the theme song, complete with the famous “ooh-loo-loo-loos,” could be reintroduced. Unfortunately, this idea was rejected by the show’s team.
Despite the change, fans have not given up on the possibility of a reconciliation. Some have speculated that the new theme song might be a hint at what’s to come. In the behind-the-scenes footage, fans have caught a snippet of a track that sounds very much like the classic White Lotus style, with plenty of rattles and soft drumming.
Social media has been buzzing with reactions from fans. Many are asking whether they will get back the original intro vibe. One fan wrote, “Are we getting the old intro vibe?” Another added, “Does this mean we’re getting…good intro music back?” Others have predicted that the new theme song could become another hit.
However, some fans remain hopeful that the show will find a way to reconcile with its original composer. One fan demanded, “Make amends with your composer,” while another echoed, “I need the ‘holololoololoo’ sooo bad.”
As the production continues, fans will be keeping a close eye on any updates regarding the theme song and other details. The White Lotus has always been known for its unique blend of humor, drama, and social critique, and season four is expected to continue this legacy.
