Daniel Farke warns ‘still no safety’ as Leeds near PL escape

Leeds Boss Daniel Farke Remains Cautious Despite Strong Performance

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has emphasized that the team’s current position in the Premier League is not a guarantee of safety, despite their recent 3-0 home victory over Wolves. The win marked another significant step towards securing their place in the top flight, with quickfire goals from James Justin and Noah Okafor putting Leeds ahead within the first 20 minutes. A stoppage-time penalty from Dominic Calvert-Lewin sealed the win, giving Leeds back-to-back league victories for the first time this season.

The result has lifted Leeds six points clear of the bottom three following their previous 2-1 win at Manchester United. With five games remaining, Farke acknowledged the positive position but stressed the need for continued focus and determination.

“Nothing is achieved yet,” Farke said. “To be at 39 points with five game-days to go is a fantastic position, but we still need to win more points. We will not allow ourselves to take our foot off the gas. We will stay focused and want to win these points as soon as possible to make it mathematically safe.”

Farke also highlighted the challenges posed by the final five matches, which include fixtures against relegation rivals Tottenham and West Ham. He noted that finishing with 39 points may not be enough in this season’s unique circumstances, where teams like Tottenham and Nottingham Forest are vying for survival.

“During a normal season, 39 points might be enough, but this is a special season. Teams like Tottenham, which is ridiculous, and Nottingham Forest, who are playing in Europe, are chasing us. Playing against Tottenham and West Ham means that if we lose, they gain three points. This makes the situation a bit special.”

Wolves Face Continued Struggles

Wolves, currently at the bottom of the table, began the day 15 points from safety. Despite a brief improvement under head coach Rob Edwards, the team suffered a 4-0 defeat at West Ham and a 3-0 loss to Leeds. Edwards admitted that individual errors had cost his side dearly and expressed understanding of the fans’ frustration.

“I completely understand the frustration and accept that. The fans should be angry, and I’m never going to say anything other than that. They travel everywhere and support the team, and they have the right to vent their frustration,” Edwards said.

He added that the club has faced difficulties for much of the season, and he is committed to making changes to avoid repeating such a difficult campaign next year.

“All I can do is promise them that we’re working extremely hard to ensure we don’t feel like this again. It can be done, and we’re working really hard to turn things around.”

A New Era for Leeds

Leeds’ recent performance has shown signs of progress, with the team demonstrating resilience and determination. Their ability to bounce back from challenging situations has earned the support of fans, who see parallels between their own journey and that of other clubs facing similar struggles.

Edwards noted that while the road to recovery is long, it is achievable. He praised Leeds for their response to adversity and believed that with the right approach, Wolves could also rebuild and return to the Premier League.

As the season reaches its final stages, both teams face critical matches that will determine their futures. For Leeds, maintaining their momentum is essential, while Wolves must find a way to break out of their current slump and secure their place in the Championship.
